Affidavit of support and Financial Records

Hi everyone,

We are November filers at CSC and I have a feeling that our NOA2 is not too far away now. I am getting my affidavit of support ready and I am wondering which years tax forms I should submit. I haven't filed for 2007 yet, but we might receive our NOA2 right around the time I would be filing (April 15th). Also, my father who will be my co-sponsor usually gets an extension on his taxes, so I'm pretty sure he won't be filing for 2007 at that time, so his most recent tax forms will be for 2006. The US embassy in Turkey requires that the sponsor and co-sponsor submit copies of the most recent year's tax forms. Since we are so close to filing time for 2007, should I be submitting 2006 or 2007?

If your interview is after April 15 you will most probably be required to submit tax records for 2007. I don't know how that will work if your cosponsor gets an extension.

In such a case, you should probably show documentation that an exentsion was filed. He should still have received W2s which you can show as proof of income.

Both you and your sponsor should request 2004 2005 & 2006 from the IRS. Send that to your fiance, with a brief statement that you have not filed your 2007 taxes yet and include copies of the 2007 W2 forms.

Once you and your sponsor file (or file for extension), forward that evidence to your finance. You may want to wait to send it all with your NOA2, but on a personal note we didn't get our NOA2 until after we were married. We got the approval e-mail...which my hubby printed and took to his interview...but the hardcopy took over month and we had to make several phone calls.

Or you can both do your 2007 taxes before April 15th and save yourself the headache.

If you file an extension, then provide documentation to prove that. If your previous records show this is normal for you, then you should be fine. I would just give the previous 3 years of ITR to show the track record of filing extensions. You should be fine because W-2's also show how much cash is coming in, which is the main concern of the document.
