that Glorious Country offers it's citizens

cant be that glorious if you left it

Oh don't fret my friend, I guarantee it's a glorious country. Canada is still just as glorious without my being there. I didn't leave for it being such a wonderful country.

I came to the U.S. only to be with my loved one and that is the only reason for my leaving.

It's tough to see people so unhappy in a country that I love. I just think it's a great place so everyone should want to live here! but when I think about how I'd feel if I had to move to Canada..or anywhere else for that matter...I'd complain about it every chance I got. I love visiting Canada, but I wouldn't want to move there. I feel for all of you who had to leave a country you grew up in, and probably loved just as much as I love mine. Because of this forum I have learned how to empathize with you all instead of taking it personal. I truly am sorry for the heartache you've endured having to uproot your entire lives.

That being said, I would have left the US for my husband in a heartbeat. I would have been very sad and maybe a little resentful, but I would have done it. If the K-1 hadn't worked out, that's what would've happened.

I still think the US is the best country in the world :) it's my home, after all. :innocent:

The emapthy is sure appreciated Amber. You explained things lovely. Most of us over time will probably get quite used to living here, and most of us call it "home" (as home is where the heart is) already. Like you, we moved here in a "heartbeat" for our loved one as well...some would do it over again if they had to, others not.

Thanks for not taking it personal and while we do complain...particularly here, we usually just need a "rant-a-day", to get back on our feet.

Ya know what....thinking about all this, now that I know how it is here, I would probably never be 100% happy anywhere. Both countries have goods and bads.

Here, I miss my family, my friends, my job, my French, my gravy, my poutine, etc... I miss what I was.

But coming from Montreal, now that I am here, if I would go back I would miss the nice roads ( well in Illinois that is :P), the lake and the beach when I go to Michigan, some really good foods I like here, cheap stuff in general when shopping, ease to find more specialized stores for about anything, etc. I would miss what I've become.

I love both countries. I hate some aspects of both at the same time. But now that I know the good sides of both, my perfect world would be a world where all of it would be together! But of course that is never gonna happen. Do I regret the move ? Sometimes. But my heart is where he is. No matter how I hurt sometimes, I will never hurt as bas as when we were apart

That said, I love both Canada and USA :luv:

What I sort of find amusing is when talking to some friends--Canadians and Americans, they all say there country is the best, blah blah blah!! Then i ask where they have traveled? they say nowhere!! So how can one say their country is the best? lol Now I have traveled a great deal, and yes I love Canada, but I would have no problems moving to South America, some places in Europe, Australia, even China was cool.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I know I'd be cranky if I had to leave everything behind and move to Canada, even though I like it very much. It's not even a Canadian thing given that I think I'd be cranky if I moved anywhere where I didn't know anyone and didn't have a job, let alone the money being all funny-colo(u)red.

Half the reason C. moved here is that he would handle the adjustment period better than I would. And he has! But I think we're too quick to read it as indicting the whole country if someone doesn't like it. The U.S. is a big place, and not liking one part doesn't mean they would have been happy anywhere in Canada, or that they won't be happy in other parts of the U.S.

Well...sometimes I do yes.

Other times I am okay with it. I try to always see the brighter side and be positive, but its hard. I miss my mom so much. I miss my family. I don't really have any friends or anything here...as of yet.

There are times where I ask myself if it was all really worth it...and the answer is always yes, but its hard. No one said it was going to be easy. I wish we lived closer to the border.

Miss my mom to and my sisters I had two younger ones who looked up to me for Guidance...

.....and now you're married. Which requires sacrifice. At least you're close to your home. You could be half way around the world, but you're not. Sounds like you may be having some doubts about your arrangements. It's not for everyone. But with a bit of strength and patience, you'll see that it will get better. Hang in there and good luck. You have people who are looking up to you. Dont give up.

I know how most of you feel but in reverse, since I was the one who Immigrated to Canada 6 years ago and now its my husbands turn (in 4 weeks!!)... Its funny because Ive been homesick everyday for 6 years and now as Im packing up our house getting ready for our move..I find myself very sad that were leaving the home that we started our married life in.. I find my list of things I will miss about Canada getting longer and longer...

This weekend we had 2 raccoons who we hadnt seen for months (Vincent, he only has one ear, and Stubbs, he looks like his tail has been cut in half) on our porch eating grapes...wont see that in Vegas!..LOL ..(we havent seen our favorite raccoon for along time Mr. George Cooney)

I worry that even though my husband says he will be fine, that he too will be very homesick and may regret the decision to move and leave his job of 31 years...

I KNOW it wont solve everything but thats why Im gathering some of his moms recipes (shortbread cookies, potato soup,..etc) from his sister, and already planning a Canada Day celebration (almost forgot the May two-four..LOL), and Canadian Thanksgiving, bought Canada themed decorations on clearance last summer..Im leaving his son money to send him care packages from home (Passion Flakies, Tetley tea, Wunderbars, Tim Hortons Coffee, Wine Gums..etc)..I taped the "King of Kensington",one of his favorite old shows, so if I see hes having a down day I can pop it in and I know it will make him smile and laugh..

Like Mephys said, no matter what, I never want to go through the heartache of being seperated again (2 years long distance), those goodbyes at the airport were gut wrenching...so my heart and home are wherever he is...and I know he feels the same about me...doesnt mean were not gonna be homesick though..LOL

It's funny, because I had emailed a friend early this morning saying:

Homesickness is constantly lurking. But, like death, you eventually learn to put it into perspective and live with it. I have become attached to my new home, now, and would dearly miss it if I suddenly decided to return to Canada.
