I just finished watching the movie "Rendition". Has anyone else seen this movie? If so, what was your opinoion of the basis of it? I would be interested to know what others thought compared to my own views.

My life has been blessed with the love of 4 of the sweetest men in the world. James, Jonathan, Nicolas, and Islam, my sons and my S/O.

Wow. Maybe they should make a movie about a guy called The Jerk. Oh wait. They already did.

I haven't seen this film yet, Tammy.... but I've heard a lot about it. I plan to watch it very soon.

What did you think ?

I can't say it was the best movie I have ever watched, but it DID get me thinking.

That we consider our selves civilized and this sort of thing happens, backed by the government, I find it repulsive. That terrorism exists is evident in the bombings that happen so frequently in the world today. To suspect each and every person of ME decent of being a terrorist is beyond my comprehension. To think that a person of ME decent could be snatched away and interrogated so cruelly and inhumanely based on a cell phone record as was portrayed in the movie, is just to out there. How many times have I gotten wrong numbers on my cell phone? To many to mention. Yet, based on a cell phone record, the character was detained, tortured, shocked, beaten, until near death.

Yet, we as Americans have no say in this? Do we as a nation, support this by remaining silent about it? We, as the wives of men from the middle east, can we feel safe that our husbands would not be suspect? What if one of our husbands has a cousin, friend, acquaintance, that the government was keeping tabs on for suspected terrorist actions? Does that automatically bring suspect upon our families? So, one day our husband gets a phone call from long lost cousin Ahmad, who may or may not be on the government watch list. A few days later, the CIA is at our doorstep and whisks away our husband. It could happen....and that is a very scary thought.

Now you know why AP can take so long.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

This was a disturbing film on so many levels :pop:

What stood out to me was that it took the new kid on the block (Jake) to realize the absolute absurdity of this situation ! He was practically speechless when he was releasing his captive, as if he still could not believe what he had participated in, and watching someone admit to crimes as their only way to freedom! This poor man had lived in the US for 20 years!

Just a sad reminder that because of the nature of our relationships, we will continue to face this type of scrutiny, prejudice and flat out ignorance!

I just finished watching the movie. I will NEVER let Usama get on a plane without me. NEVER. Not after watching that film. What I hated about the film though is that they never did explain what REALLY happened in terms of the phonecall. Watching her have the baby without him just reminds me of the hell our gov't puts us through in terms of immigration for the same reason. Now I'm gonna have to go eat something good to get back in my happy place.

That was some of my point. I doubt if this had been a real situation, and I am sure it has been so in many cases, there was NO explanation as to why any of this happened. I doubt seriously that if this were to ever happen to any of our husbands there would ever be an apology, explanation or any way to retaliate against what amounts to an illegal seizure and imprisonment. Not to mention the torture tactics that were portrayed in the film, of which I am sure were at least somewhat true.

First, it scares me to death to think that somewhere down the road there may come a time when someone knocks on our door and my husband is whisked away to God only knows where for questioning about something he may have no knowledge of. All because someone he knows may know someone who knows someone who may be a criminal? Not saying that is the case, my husband has brothers on the police force in Jordan, and passed his security checks without any problems. But who knows what could happen and what phony excuse can be made up for the Government to justify their actions?

Second, I can't say that it bodes well with me to know that our government can be so underhanded and sneaky as to do this to human beings without any fingers being pointed at them.

Third, terrorism comes in all forms. From buildings being blown up, to the boy that bullies your allowance from you on Friday afternoons. Terrorism is terrorism, no matter how big or small it is. What makes any of it right? What makes any of it "politically correct"? Maybe this just hits me hardest because my husband is Arabic, maybe it hits me hardest because of the injustice of all of it. Will there ever be a time when the world can live at peace with one another? When what someone else holds dearest to them is not taken from them in war and killings? I just see no rhyme or reason for any of it. Maybe it is just time for me to take off my rose colored glasses and see the world for what it is, and stop hoping for a better place.

Why not move to your SO's country so you and your family will not be potentially exposed to this type of situation?

Yeah, if you don't like living with the fear that one day your husband could be "disappeared" away to another country and tortured, you can always move to a country where the government doesn't deny that sort of thing happens. This is the price you pay for living in America.

This is why I want my husband to become a citizen as soon as possible, although I think that concern will still always be in the back of my mind. And it's not only the people they might know from back home. When they arrive here, they naturally meet people from their home country. Their name and phone number get passed around. My husband has gotten calls out of the blue from someone three or four degrees of separation from someone he met in a cafe, a fellow Moroccan just wanting to meet him, to find other Moroccans for soccer, etc. The networking is normal, but it's also normal to worry who might be on the fringes of that network.

Are you serious? She's a US Citizen and you're suggesting she move from the country she was born in, the country that promotes "freedom" because then she won't have the fear that her government, the one she's paid her hard earned taxes to, the one her forefathers lost their lives for, will take her husband and torture him for no proven reason?
