P.S. I was thinking, you should probably get your fiance to help you with this. It's much easier if the two of you sit down together and get it all worked out and organized. :) Edited by ~Laura and Nick~

Starting the K1 process, wow it took me a month or so to get everything together, but that was because I am going to school and working two part time jobs.

For me, and this is my thoughts to you, is sit down and make a plan. The process will go much smoother if you make a plan and follow through.

Read through all the guidelines here and follow them step by step. Then, continue and make your plan accordingly. Remember, the more detailed your plan, the more detailed your K1 petition will be. So don't feel rushed to get things done. Pay attention to detail and take your time. It is a long process and adding a month to make things perfect will pay off in the long run.

For example, rushing through it might increase your chances of getting an RFE because your chances of missing important details are higher. An RFE will probably add a few weeks to two months to your case. So taking your time will help you eliminate such issues.

If you have specific questions or things that you just do not understand. You have found the right place to ask them and you are invited to continue as everyone here will do their best to help you. That has been my experience and I am sure it will be yours too.

Good luck!

Breathe! :)

Click Here for the K1 Guides. It's a list of what you need for the intial petition.

At this point you don't need your birth certificate, but you can send it in if you like. We sent mine in even though it doesn't ask for it at this point just in case. I've seen people get RFE's for not including the beneficiaries birth certificate with the initial package.

Just read through the guides and take your time, fill everything in correctly and triple check what you've done after it's all together.

Don't forget to do a cover letter with a list of everything you have in your package and put all your documents in the same order listed on that cover letter.

Good Luck!

thank u so much! i will send everything i think that i have to! it will not hurt!

thanks again!

Your fiance should also assist you with the I-129F petition, and know as much of the "first step" rules, because this visa petition filled out and signed by the US citizen. He should ar least know what is on the form before he signs his name to it.

Has he been on VJ at all?

It's a great resource...it couldn't hurt to point him in this direction so he can see what's required too.

I wish you all the luck in the world!!! :)

Yes, give him this website...tell him to come here and read around, especially the Guides. He will then know both what he need from you (what you should send him) and what information/documents he needs to gather. "Send everything" is a little too general. Please encourage him to do a little research on his own as this process is most successful if completed together. For this first portion, the petition approval, the emphasis is on the US citizen...it is his petition. At the second stage, the visa application/interview, then it will be you who is applying.

Good luck,

-P
