Cuddling is always a good thing to do, no matter if its day or night. I definitely agree with that.

I think driving around and letting her explore and pick some places she likes would be a good idea as someone pointed out. It helps her feel out what kind of neighborhood and location we'd both want in a place. I'm done with the college atmosphere, seeing as I live <1mile from it. Any local couples think Sanford or maybe something over on the west side of the city might suit us?

P.S. Since no one replied to it in the service centers forum, can someone please set the record straight for me when I'm ready to submit soon...

Texas Service Center

or

Vermont Service Center

The USCIS website says one for my Zipcode (Texas) and the other as per a bulletin on July 30th, 2007 (Vermont)

I love Sanford. I go there all the time to shop. I live in Mount Dora and am really happy in this area. It's pretty much central to everything.

I haven't kept up with the service center information, but when we filed Florida was through Texas at that time. It probably still is but I can't say for sure. (We actually filed through Vermont because he lived in Maryland at the time.)

One of the things my husband did was take me to Lowe's Garden Center - really! Your girl is from Canada and will be probably be astonished - like me - how many plants are outside plants that back in Canada are only house plants! It is kind of fun going through garden nurseries and such:-). We also went furniture shopping and picked out a living room set that we liked. He ended up buying it a few weeks before I moved down so it was here waiting for me upon my arrival. Driving around the area, going for walks in your neighbourhood, having dinner in a nice local restaurant, maybe getting together with some of your friends and their wives or dates for an evening, these are all things that will help her feel more at home in her new home:-).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hmm, well when I get the forms from her...I guess I could always call and confirm, but then again if their website says two different things, I imagine the phone answerer will likely be just as confused.

I've always been curious about the area up there. Quite a few college classmates that grew up in central FL lived up that way, so something must be nice ;) I'll check it out when I get the chance.

I took a look at the filing instructions and it says that Florida now files through Vermont. Don't see any mention of Texas, though.

Mount Dora is one of those tourist destination towns that people come to. It has a quaint downtown area and a huge flea and antique market for people who enjoy that. There is always some sort of festival or event going on. I don't think there's much on in May, but here is a link to their visitor information if you want to plan a visit.

you MUST take her to ROSS for less (for those who don't know it, it's a cheaper version of Winners). we don't have it in the midwest.

Also to Kirklands if she's into home stuff, an all you can eat lobster in orlando, and lots of happy hours (i beleive except for QC, we don't have drink happy hours anywhere in Canada).

just have fun at the beach and stuff.

most of all, if a girl likes to shop, shopping will make her the happiest!

RE: Service center question

If you go to www.uscis.gov and look for the Office Locator using zip code and type 32765, it will reply with the Texas Service Center. Please try it and make sure I'm not crazy :)

Good suggestions folks. Always a pleasure getting second opinions and input for new ideas.

Is DisneyWorld out of the question? I've never been to Orlando, so I'm not sure how locals feel about going to Disney. There are some pretty cool restaurants and such at all the resorts. But that might be a tourist thing??

I like all your ideas? R and I like to do average everyday stuff together like go grocery shopping and make dinner together, hang out.

But going out places and enjoying different attractions together, that you aren't normally able to do is fun too.

With long distance relationships you kind of lose the whole "going on dates" aspect, so we always make sure to go on dates and make plans when we can to make up for it.

We are pretty lucky too, we're either in NYC or Toronto so there is always something going on.

I'm so excited for you guys! You'll have so much fun! I love long visits.

Done the Disney thing and kind of tight on cash at the moment, so chances are that idea is out. However, you are definitely right, there are a # of good restaurants down that way.

I think the idea of doing everyday things together is probably the simplest and most useful way to get adjusted to living together down the road. I know you can't prevent everything,

but helping the adjusting phase for both of us go smoothly would be a wonderful thing.

Ross is da bomb! My last shopping spree there I came out with, like, 10 outfits and shoes for under $50. Craziness.
