Who says Satellite isn't good for something? Just look what he started!

this has turned into one of the funniest threads i've seen on vj

Appropriately, I see Satellite like "Sputnik." It caused quite a stir but it was just a silly Russian metal ball flying around in space. But it did make a sucker out of the USA.

Silly metal ball?

Sputnik could be the reason we're all on this forum right now. Not just from the technological sense, but also the Cold War / Breaking down the wall sense.

Joking aside, Sputnik was a big deal. I was alive to remember it. I remember going outside to look for it at night. We saw something but I've since heard it was not visible to the naked eye. I think what we actually saw was a stage of the rocket that put it in orbit.

i got one for ya'll. i was reading a war book not too long ago, about a german soldier on the eastern front. one phrase he listed that he heard the russians chanting as they were advancing (and kicking the german's butt) was this:

ourrah pobieda.

what's the translation of that?

Due to the transliteration, it could also sound something like -

"Hoorah! Lunch!"

(As in, "we're kicking your @$$ so bad this morning that soon you'll be our lunch!")
