Has any one ever had to get a police check from the Rep of Vanuatu? Do you know how to get it?

OR if I have a letter from the volunteer organisation (VSO) that sent me there stating that to the best of their knowledge I have no criminal record is this good enough?

Thanks

Here is a link listing all countries.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/index.htm

Here is what it says for Vanuatu

POLICE AND PRISON RECORDS

Available. Applicants should write to the Office of the Police Commissioner, Private Mail Bag 014, Port Vila, Republic of Vanuatu; Phone: (678) 26570, Fax: (678) 22800. The police charge a small fee for this service. Quality of information is sometimes uneven. An automated information system is planned but not yet fully implemented; criminal records from police stations are currently forwarded to police headquarters for manual entry. There are no reliable alternative methods of background checks.

So you will be required to get a police certificate.

Thank you. I had the address before but not the phone number. This is very helpful. Maybe they can tell me how much the fee is etc...

i am having the same problems trying to figure out if my fiancee who had worked in kuwait but now lives in the philippines will be required to get a police certificate from kuwait. Kuwait is on the list of "must be physically present to obtain certificate list". It says that it is impossible to get a certificate unless you are a resident of kuwait and submit fingerprints.

It seems clear cut that it wont be required at interview but it is impossible to contact manila embassy and get an answer. I am considering writing the kuwait embassy in the USA and hopefully have them write me a letter stating the impossibility of getting the certificate and having fiancee take that and the kuwait police certificate website info to her interview.

ryecatcher25,

I imagine they are aware of countries where police certificates are unobtainable or unobtainable unless present in that country. On reading posts on the old board, members printed out the appropriate page from the link I provided above, which is from the DOS website, showing the police check requirements of the country in question. If you can get something from them in reply to your letter this naturally is not going to hurt.

Good luck.
