While we wait to get approved.....

The K1 visa petition (I-129F) has been filed. What can we do to get ready for the next step?

Waiting is what you will mainly do. But in the mean time you can make sure your SO has a valid passport, Birth cert, you should get your evidence together for the interview (pictures, proof of an ongoing relationship ect) but mostly just wait. Here is hoping your wait is a short one!

Exactly as Gary said. Read up on the Guides here at VJ. Look at the K1 Flowchart and see what's coming up next.

Mainly, just take each day. Work, save money, keep the relationship strong, plan a visit and visit! :)

Plan your future with your soon to be spouse. Talk about what you would like to do in 3 years, 5 years, 10 years. If you will be buying a home, look at homes together online. Talk about decorating your house or apartment. Talk about how you'll get all your fiance's stuff over (or your stuff over if you are the fiance)

Just live and plan for the next chapter in your lives.

Best of luck to you! :)

The best thing you can do from an immigration point of view is to collect all the evidence of your ongoing relationship. Every time you get a phone bill, highlight the calls and put it in your evidence folder. Print emails (doesn't have to be all of them), etc. When it's finally time for the interview you're going to want to have a lot of evidence showing that there is a bona fide relationship. It's easiest if you collect it all along the way.

Timeline

- Try to apply for police certificates - check how long they're valid for, how long they take to be issued, if you need your packet 3 to apply for them

- Apply for vaccination records if you don't already have them - This will help you work out what you'll need for the AOS

- Have the USC get their financial stuff in order - tax returns etc. and determine if you'll need a co-sponser (if so they'll need to start getting stuff together too)

While some of those you won't be able to do quite yet, you can research them so that you know when and how to do them when the time comes!

I think most consulates will only accept police certificates up to 6 months old. If that's the case with your consulate (check your regional forum, your consulate's website, or call the consulate directly), hold off until you've been approved for the police certs, or at least try to time them properly.

Being busy definitely helps. And it's always good to pop into VJ and find other people in the same situation as you! That really helped me because I found friends/family generally didn't understand just what it's like to go through this.

I would apply for the UK police certificate as soon as you are approved (NOA2). It will take around 40 days to get in the UK. I thought that the police certificate was valid for 1 year in the UK.

17th March 2010 - Started the removal of conditions process

22nd March 2010 - Application received by CSC

30th April 2010 - Biometrics appointment
