Hello fellow VJ'ers, first time newbe here. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to post this message, but I have to ask for some adivice. My fiance went for her medical yesterday, all was ok except the x-ray. She had to take 3 different x-rays because the doctor "saw something",but she wasn't specific. She told that it was a "spot" I don't know what the full details are as of yet, because its hard to talk to a crying woman :( My question is that say it a type of lymphoma,is that grounds to deny a visa?? She is going back to the doctor tommorrow.

I understand that communicable diseases are, I.E. t/b, aids ect but this?? I have good medical coverage and now want to get over here faster than ever to nip this in the butt. ANY HELP / OPINIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!! thanks

The "spot" the doctor is referring to is probably a sign in a chest xray of patients with TB. She is asked to go back the following day probably for further evaluation like a sputum test and culture and treatment. She will not be given a visa until she has completed the treatment. It is not grounds for denial but might delay your visa. There are other VJs in here who were suspected of having TB but after evaluation turned out to be normal. Just pray that everything will be ok. we'll also keep u in our prayers :)

My wife experience the same thing. First day of medical was Dec. 21, 2007. First, Doctor saw a suspect spot in the x-ray.(only 1 x-ray taken) A few days later she had to do sputum test. They take samples of her phlegm 3 consecutive days. The results for the first 2 only take a few days to come back. The 3rd is the TB culture. That will take 6 weeks to get the results for that. My wifes results were negative for the first 2, and unfortunately was positive for TB infection on the 3rd. SLEC started her treatment that same day. She has to go to SLEC everyday now for the treatment, except weekends they give her meds. to take at home since they are closed. After 1 month of treatment, they do another sputum test to make sure the meds. are working. She is doing the Quadtab everyday.(4 meds. in 1 tablet) Her next sputum test will be this thursday, Feb. 21, 2008. and we pray she will be negative this time. However, she will still need to finish the full 6 months of treatment before she can be rescheduled for her interview. There are no extra charges for the test or the meds. Apparently this might be one reason the cost of medical went up a few months back.

The best thing you can to is support her and hope her test come back negative.

Feel free to IM me, we all need support during this time and keep us informed. It will be a great help for others going through the same thing.

I had the same situation - they saw a spot on my X-ray and directed me to the TB clinic for further evaluation. I went for a quick computer tomography and it showed that the "spot" was nothing more than an enlarged blood vessel from a general anesthesia I had 10 yrs ago at my surgery. The only bummer was that the CT cost me additional $150 and extra 2 days of hassle.

Don't sweat.

Lymphoma or any other type of cancer is NOT grounds for visa denial. As for TB, it's still a possibility but it's GOOD if they catch it early - normally it gives no symptoms until your lungs begin to crumble. If TB is confirmed, take a deep breath, undergo a treatment, then go get your visa and live happily ever after.
