Hi Everyone!

Trying to go fast track here. Meeting with my husband (USC) due next month inshaAllaah and I am making sure that he has all the documents for the NVC from my side to avoid the mailing time. I have an original birth certificate issued by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation or KMC (was issued back in 1983). Now I am trying to track them down as I have been told that we would need my original Birth Certificate for both NVC and the Interview at the Embassy. Is this true? Also, who is entitled to issue a 'Certified Copy' of it...or Should I try to make a duplicate of the Birth certificate? ---Please advice.

I will really appreciate your help.

I am not sure the requirements are the same for K3 but we petitioned for K1. I wrote the embassy here about this and they told me to get my birth certificate translated into English (official translation) and make copies of it. I do not have to certify the copies because the CO will certify them for me provided I bring my original birth certificate with me to the interview.

Below is the reply from the embassy:

1. Do I need to arrange for an official translation of my birth certificate to English?

Yes, your birth certificate must be translated officially to English.

2. Do I need to provide an authenticated copy of the birth certificate by the Ministry to the consul during the interview or I could just provide a plain photocopy of the certificate without authentication?

You can provide a plain photocopy together with the original and we will certify it.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

When they say 'certified copy', in the instructions, they mean a copy from the 'issuing authority' - so basically what they are saying is that they want an original.

All of the documents you submit to NVC are forwarded to your Embassy/Consulate. You should only need one copy - the copy you send to the NVC, they should return this to you at the interview.

Thanks a lot for both posts. Trailmix I probably just needed some assurance from everyone else. Although I was hoping someone from PK would post to this question but these posts are helpful too. Thank you *smile*

Thanks Tamz! My birth certficate is already in English. Maybe they had changed the law in 1980s and started issuing them in English. Just wondering if I should contact the hospital where I was born or simply go to KMC's office.

thank you for the post.

Given Information: Very Helpful.
