It sounds like your case went to the same place my husband's did. Washington DC. We were told by the embassy that the extra processing would take 7-10 business days. We immediately got our congressman involved, and they told us it would take ~ 2 months' time. The embassy did not take my husband's passport though and it wasn't formally called a 221g, even though that's what it is. From my understanding, there is no way to expedite this *extra* security check (which I highly suspect is little more than a thorough Google search, but that's me being quite cynical). When you call DOS, they can only say if the case is still pending. No timelines, nothing.

I am a bit perplexed why the CO took your passport because it usually means that they expect to return it to you within a couple of weeks. (It is usually a good sign if they do keep it). However, I believe that they cannot withhold your passport for an extended period of time. I would recommend emailing the embassy and contacting your congressman so that someone can find out a) how long this extra processing will take and B) ask them to return your passport in the meanwhile.

Hopefully, the AP will be short. :)

hi,

lady jane is right....this is an AP and it will probably be more shorter I think... Less than A MONTH. I am sure it has gone for your name check .... guess something got to do with common names and stuff. Once your passport is taken.... dont worry.... it will come with visa stamped on it. Just pray it moves faster between washington and embassy here in India.

God bless...... Pray...thats alll we can do to expediate the case

Well I called the DOS today and got a very nice lady on the phone. She was so helpful and so polite. I asked her if my husband's case is pending and not only did she tell me that his case is undergoing a security clearance, but she also told me these usually take about a month. She said to call back in a couple of weeks to check again.

So much information, especially when I was just expecting a yes/no answer! She really made my day. Even though the case is still pending, I have a bit of knowledge and that helps with my anxiety of just not knowing when. So my fingers are crossed. Soon...

i went to interview on 28 march 2007 and today is 14 feb and still case pending for ap

this is what they said "Currently this case is pending for an administrative processing. Unfortunately it is not possible for us to predict the time this processing still may take. However, we would like you to rest assured that we are keeping a very close eye on the development of this admin processing and will immediately get in touch with the applicant once this processing has concluded."
