I am older and thinking that wedding gowns are limited use and look silly on the over 50 crowd. So I am leaning towards something in a nice traditional attire. First of all it can be worn again and second it will make my wedding unique. What are you/ did you do about wedding attire ?

Thanks

I wore a champaign colored gown with a bolero jacket. I thought it was a beautiful gown and so did everyone else. And yes, I can wear mine for multiple occassions. They have very reasonable prices and a variety to choose from.

Good luck (F)

I've been married before. I did the white dress and big wedding then and don't feel compelled to do it again. Bassi is totally disinterested in a large affair here and not at all in a traditional western wedding. We are planning a small religious cermony (I mean 4 people :)) and then a family gathering. We're wearing ghanaian style matching attire. I've already picked out my ghanaian lace. It started my current fetish with the beautiful fabric. There will be a huge traditional wedding in Ghana, and we'll both be miserable (neither of us is good at being the center of attention), but it pleases family so we'll do it.

We did the matching traditional wear. Navy blue and silver. Funny thing is, my husband doesnt wear any traditional clothing..He didnt even own an outfit until our wedding! We will have a reception/welcome home party when he gets here with about 25-30 people. Nothing too fancy! We're both very low-key people. :)

Not doing the white wedding thing. We are doing the traditional wedding in my village and then a reception in my SOs town. I'm still not sure what we are wearing, whether we are going to match or not. For the reception we are going to wear all white, not sure if we are going to wear lace though.

Zainab, I feel you on the big traditional wedding for the sake of the family.

We are doing both. It is the first marriage for both of us, we will do the Western white dress tuxedo thing during the ceremony and the first hour of the reception, and then we will change into our traditional outfits that his sister is bringing from Nigeria for the entire wedding party and immediate family members. The same thing for food we will have American fare for everyone and also Nigerian food for anyone that wants it.

I did the exact same thing. Actually mine does have an embroidered bolero jacket too. I wonder if it is the same outfit?

The longer it takes to introduce yourself the less you've actually accomplished

I did the traditional white gown. Our intentions were to have the entire wedding party change into traditional African attire for the reception. However, that plan did not work. At the reception we had American food, and the day following the wedding my parents hosted a Bon Voyage with tons of Cameroonian foods, and some American. We even roasted a goat!

ALL things work TOGETHER for GOOD!

Since neither of us has been married before, and I want the traditional wedding, I'm wearing an ivory wedding dress (western style) and he'll wear a tux. Our "going away" outfits will be traditional Nigerian attire.
