Are the interview documents kept by the embassy?

Are all of the documents that are taken to the embassy for the interview (in my case, the US embassy in Moscow) kept by the embassy, or are they just presented for review and then retained by the interviewee? I'm sure the I134, DS230, and DS156 are kept by the embassy, but what about everything else? The employer letter, the bank letter, bank statements, the further proof of relationships documents such as receipts and photos and etc, the tax transcripts or copies of 1040s, W-2s, and all the rest? I know the officer can ask to see originals of the various documents (birth certificates and the like), but should I also make sure my fiancee has copies of everything so that they can be turned in to the officer if requested?

When we interviewed for the K-visa the officer looked at the I-134 and gave it back to my wife.

The DS, OF, medical forms are kept by the embassy, and placed in the brown immigrations envelope that you turn over to the officer at the POE when entering the USA.

NOTE: You do not need a bank letter if your income exceeds 125% povertyline, bank account data is only needed if you need to show savings account as an asset, when you do not meet 125% povertyline.

Thanks YuAndDan, but when it comes to documents that Natasha needs to take to her interview, she's running the show. I know she doesn't need it, but she wants EVERYTHING with her! Thanks for all the info however. I'll stick with the originals only.

You will want a photocopy of the birth certificate. Bring the original, too. They will look at the original to verify validity and will take the photocopy. That way you can keep it (you will need it later).
