I was wondering if during the K1 process it is possible to visit your fiance(e) in their country. And if you can, what would be the best time during the process? My fiance lives in Colombia, she is currently finishing school. I would like to visit her sometime in April if possible. If we start the K1 process now is that possible?

You bet it is... And will provide even more evidence of relationship at K-1 interview time  . Check with the Department of State for the requirements for travelling to Colombia, but I think all you need is a passport and return ticket.

Have fun! Buy your mother a souvenir.

Yes, you have to visit your fiance, it doesn´t matter. You can travel there to visit and collect more evidence for the interview, because it is necessary to prove to the consular officer that there is an ongoing relationship among you both.

Thanks for the VERY QUICK response!

Once I send the I129 in, how long should I wait before I go to Colombia? Or do I have to wait at all?

You can visit at any time during the K-1 process. If you are planning an a long visit (more than a week or so), you should consider that you will probably want to be "home" in the U.S. to handle any RFE's that might come in, which probably be somewhere from 3-5 months after you file.

Of course, there's ways around that. For instance, if you trust someone to check your mail, they can let you know (while you're gone) if you get mail from the USCIS, and you can monitor the website from overseas. If an RFE comes in, fly home right away to take care of it. Of course, that could be expensive the way the airline industry works, but if it's a short trip, or a trip soon after you file the I-129f, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

Side note, the I-129 is a petition for a nonimmigrant worker. I-129f is for a fiance(e). I hope you're filing the right one ;)

Have you been to Colombia before? If not, it will be a great thing to experience your fiancée's culture and environment.

Is it possible for the future bride to be to come to the US after I start the K1 process? She already has a tourist visa and she also previous used it to visit me? Honestly we are trying to spend the least amount of time apart from eachother.... So if anyone has the best way to do that please let us know..

I don't see why not. Having a visa means she's allowed to visit the U.S. You can take advantage of every time you see each other and take lots of pictures for future evidence.

Sure she can, and again, more evidence at interview time. My fiancée was able to get a B-2 and visit after I filed the I-129f. Many others have been successful, too. It's possible that she will be turned away at the POE if the officer fears marriage or fraud, but that applies with any visit. When they ask the purpose of the trip, say "to visit." If they inquire further, answer all questions honestly.

Good luck

It could be a good idea for her to bring proof that she will be returning to her country ("ties" to her home country) such as a work letter, apartment lease, school letter/proof of some sort...this will help ensure that if they do inquire further into her reasons for coming, she will be able to prove that she really is just coming for a visit.
