I'm going to make hamburgers tonight, i'm thinking if I formed them now they will probably hang together better on the bbq, so need to get to that - plus i need to make dough and cook the buns!

Last night we had taco salads, using ground turkey - love the big taco salad!

That's the flour I use too, but i use it for all my baking needs if you notice they have a higher protien content so its better then the all purpose stuff here vs the all purpose stuff in canada. They use a soft wheat in this part of the south. Canada has strick regulation on the protien content in the flour all the flour sold in Canada is regulated and their is no regulation at all in the US for protiens so you can find it as low as 1gram to 3grams of protien vrs the 4grams back home, And it sure does make a difference. Anyways home made buns are yummy my kids always like it when we would make em. I'm making chicken with biscuits. Not the same as chicken and dumplins though. Its real good I got it from the Barefoot Contessa cookbook I love her books lost of yummy stuff.

I remember you posting something about flour (as above) not that long ago Ontarkie! I couldn't find the post and couldn't remember exactly what it was you said, just something about bread flour tasting more like Canadian bread - but I had bread flour and it didn't taste the same

Mmm that Korean Pork sounds wonderful. What were the exact measurements of ingredients? How long was it in the crockpot for? Appreciate if you could post here, thanks!

I had bought some time ago a package of BBQ Beef Brisket, Curley's. Never heard of it before. Anyway, I threw it in the freezer in case we wanted something and I didn't make anything, or after arriving home from travelling. Anyway, last night it was like 4 pm, and I thought, we'll just have leftovers from the night before, which was a baked ziti casserole and salad, when I remembered that I had given Gene some of that for his lunch that day! Couldn't do that to him! Three meals in a row the same thing?? So I'm like...hmmm, what will we have?? So, I scouted through the freezer, and saw this Curley beef, so defrosted that. Made up a tray of raw veggies and dill dip, we had oven fried sweet potatoes, and this beef brisket that was to die for!

If anyone ever wonders if it's good, it is! Hickory Smoked...it was awesome!

That sounds delicious, love beef brisket!

The buns I made yesterday, they looked more like dinner buns than hamburger buns, but oh well they worked and dinner was good.

For tonight, I can't decide. Maybe pizza.

Ya its not exactly the same but it cooks closer to our all purpose flour. The higher protien content makes a different when making cookies and such. We get more flavour then the all purpose stuff here. I'm still playing with it to see if I can use it for everything so far so good.

That korean pork does sound good, is it very spicy one of my boys gets stomach migranes and can't eat anything spicy.

The first time the kids and I had a beef brisket was down here about a month after we got here. We tested out our new crockpot we got as a wedding gift. I was really surprised how it tasted. We ate it all up .

as for homemade buns mine turn out like that too,but they are yummy.

We will just have left overs tonight i have plenty of em.

Hey Carla and Ontarkie! Here's that recipe for the korean pork.

2 lbs boneless pork, cut into strips

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 soy sauce

3 tablespoons sambal olek

2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger

2 teaspoon sesame oil

2 teaspoon cornstarch

6 cloves garlic, minced

salt for seasoning

1. Lightly season pork with salt

2. Combine all seasonings from brown sugar to garlic in a bowl

3. Pour over pork and marinate over night

4. Cook on low 6-8 hours or on high 3-4

5. Serve with steamed rice!

I made a few changes. Sambal olek, if you don't know, is garlic chili paste which can be really spicy. I didn't use 3 tablespoons. I don't think you need to use any if you don't want to Ontarkie. It's not going to change the flavor much if you leave it out. I put it in to my taste, or other hot sauce or pepper flakes if you don't have the chili garlic paste. I also found it a bit salty so I'd use low sodium soy sauce if I had it. Oh...and I found the recipe the day that I made the pork, so I didn't marinate it at all and it was amazing with everything just thrown into the crockpot. I think it would be even BETTER if you could marinate it even a few hours. Let me know if you try it! It was really good. I served it with brown rice, YUM!
