Last night we went to BB's parents but missed dinner so we had left over pizza from Donatos :)

One thing I miss from TO is getting Oxtail and rice and peas from Raps or Spence's on Eglinton. Man I love Oxtail...the meat just falls right off. Its so good. I found one place here that has it but aparently its in a shady part of town. But really, for that type of food, its probably best in those parts! If anybody knows Toronto, Eglinton West wasn't the best of places, but I was used to it. I want to go. I will one day.

Hey Carla, what kind of breadmaker do you have? I'm always interested in how the different models/brands work. I haven't tried to make bread with flaxseed meal or almond meal as the main ingredient. I always add flaxseed meal to my spelt bread though. I'm not sure exactly what kind of recipes you'd like, but I've got all kinds from Gruyere and Walnut Wheat Bread, Sundried Tomato and Mozzarella, as well as Rustic Italian Loaf. There are quite a few different artisan type breads. They have some low carb recipes as well. The low carb recipes still use flour, but it's usually a very small amount of whole wheat flour, barley flour, or oat flour. There are quite a few low carb options including cinnamon bread, nutty loaf, and low carb seed bread to name a few. The measurements are different depending on the size of loaf you want to make as well- 1 1/2 pounds or 2. (Medium or large) Anyhow, let me know if any of those sound interesting and I'll post the recipes for you.

Do you have a low carb setting on your bread machine?

They have Pataks in all of the grocery stores here. You haven't found any in FLA?

Alas, I have only been able to find the mild, less spicy, versions. Not the Madras. And even that's at the Fresh Market which is 45 minutes away from me. :bonk:

Mmmmm. I have a fab recipe for oxtail soup. I was rather surprised to find oxtail in the local supermarkets here. :o:dance:

On breadmakers..... I used to have one and found the blade in the loaf fairly annoying. Plus I still wasn't getting that artisan-style loaf that I had been craving.... so I ended up learning to make bread the old-fashioned way. My Mum borrowed my breadmaker for a while, then gave it away when I told her she could keep it. Immediately after that my daughter asked her for it.

I almost wish I could make bread the old fashioned way. Due to the fact that I have to have wheat free bread it makes it a little more difficult. Even though I've got to babysit the dough in the machine, it means I don't have to spend 7 bucks for a loaf of bread!

Meatloaf tonight with herbed pan-fried potatoes and fresh broccoli.

I went to start the BBQ for the sausages and the darn thing won't start!

Anyway, they are frying now and then I will make the pasta and Alfredo.

I also have this loaf of bread in the breadmaker, should be done soon:

Spinach Bread from allrecipes

INGREDIENTS

1 cup water

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1/2 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon white sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

DIRECTIONS

Place all ingredients in bread machine pan in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select white bread cycle.

i think I am going to make sweet and sour meatballs ..

I am thinking of using my recipe that I use for sweet and sour farmer sausage.. I don't see why it wouldn't work... the sauce is just brown sugar, ketchup, water and vinegar...

would serve it with rice..

ok so i ended up making the sweet and sour meatballs and they are now cooking away in the crock pot and should be ready in 2 hours or so...

for the meatballs, I just mixed the ground beef with an egg, some italian bread crumbs, salt, pepper and onion powder and a dash of Worcestershire sauce... browned them in the oven and threw them with the sauce into the crockpot...

Veggie burgers and mixed vegetables. yum. lol

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I have a Toastmaster bread maker. No low carb setting. You have awesome recipes! Did you get that with your breadmaker or did you buy a book? I prefer low carb...or want to try those anyway. The almond meal and flaxseed meal I was told could subsitute for any regular flour, however I too have heard that some recipes might call for a small amount of whole-wheat flour with them. The seed bread might be something to try if you could post that here. Or you could message me with the recipe, since I don't know how many people are really interested in that kind of recipe. Thanks so much!

That looks scrumptious Marilyn, but where is the vegetables?

I ended up yesterday having a real hankering for a roasted beef, so I bought a bottom rump roast, and marinated it in soy, ginger, garlic, water, thyme, and some chili sauce for 2 hours. Then roasted it for 2 hours basting it with the marinade. I made roasted potatoes, turnips and carrots in one pan, then zuchinni, peppers and onions in another. It was delicious.

We're going out tonight with a friend and some of his friends that he games with in historic St. Charles, only about a half-hour away from here. We're going to eat at Vivian's vineyard. Links posted. Looking forward to that!

The spinach bread did come out nicely, however i had a piece with the pasta and sausage (and onion, peppers etc - I wanted to acknowledge I did throw some vegetables in there  ) - and the other flavours, of course, totally overpowered the bread.

Carla, that vineyard should be fun, did you see the stuff on their conduct page? It's hilarious (below are a couple)!

HOW TO CONDUCT YOURSELF AT A CLASS (THIRD) RESTAURANT

OUR MISSION – “To provide our clients with a dining experience like having dinner with us in our home (except you have to pay for your food and drink).” - Jim and Barb

OUR PHILOSOPHY – Remember, you’re in St. Charles, not at the Ritz. Please enter as our Customer, but leave as our Friend. If you have a special request, question, or problem, please let us know at once. …We probably won’t do anything about it, but we like to keep track of these things.

YOUR ENTRANCE – Please don’t steal the sign like Paul Scholl. Please wait for your/our Host or Hostess to seat you. We like to give everybody in the restaurant a chance to check you over, and there’s no better way than making a production of guiding you to a table. Besides, it gives Jim something to do.

COCKTAILS & APPETIZERS – Your wait person will immediately try to push drinks and snacks on you (because we make big profits on these items). We further encourage this practice since it takes a long time to read this menu…so drink up!
