Which new laws?

The ones applying to DCF and living in egypt for 6 months or the new stuff preventing marriage in Egypt to USC?

They were about the same time right?

Or am I missing a new law?

There's a member named Monnik that filed after the new laws took affect. She's the only one from Egypt I can think of at the moment.

Sometime in 2007 a new rule was made that USC cannot marry Egyptians in Egypt. That's the one preventing marriage but really it doesn't prevent it since the couple can just file the K-1 and get married here in the US.

Yup that's the one.

It's also the reason we filed for K-1 since I arrived in Egypt to marry my husband 3 days after it took effect

My Husband met someone in Egypt who applied after and she was there for the 6 months and came back last fall. She arrived in Egypt about the same time as me (just before I believe). I talked to her on the phone breifly once when my hubby gave them a ride, but the husband is still there. ((shrug)) I don't know what is happening with that one but apparently my husband was following it.

That's so stupid, that's such a stupid law.

I think it's a game between the embassy and egyptian government

We got married before the marriage procedure was changed and we filed before the DCF procedure was changed.

Sorry. I am no help. ;)

Hey E&M! Thanks for your posts, I needed to see those, I am happy to see someone in a slightly similar situation as me. However, you're further along in the process, I haven't filed my I-130 yet. In fact, I go to the oh-so-wonderful consulate tomorrow to see what they have to say about it and my options. I've been here about 6 months as well, and was married after the "law" or "game" took effect. Would you say DCF is the way to go? I am not sure, just researching posts. Also, I went through the marriage game...and I figured out how to get around it...there is no way they can make it against the law, but they give the excuse it's the Egyptian government's problem, which actually has no problem. No game between them, just the American consulate playing the conspiracy-against-immigration game without actually stating it! If you know anyone that needs help getting a marriage petition let me know, the consulate makes it difficult to know who to go to, so you don't question the "inconvenience". I really want to nail these guys like i did with my affidavit! You're right, it's a very stupid little game...Take care and best of luck!
