The brilliance of public access is truly missed.

There was a show called "Meetings with the Mayor" in my town. I was selected by my teacher to meet the mayor and interview him on DARE (which was new at the time). So I turn up, with my 80s mall hair and grill him and the local police chief on DARE. My favorite parts are where I constantly refer to people who abuse drugs as "the druggies"

LOL...the "druggies."

The only thing I remember learning from DARE was to give "the cold shoulder." Nasty ole' Peer Pressure!

Did you learn the DARE song?

I do not remember that! At the time DARE was the latest new-fangled thing "from California."

Before that we had to rely on Nancy Reagan telling us to "just say no" and the obligatory smashed car in front of the school the week of prom to remind us not to drink and drive.

I didn't do DARE until 1992, but I believe the poofy bangs, LA Gears and bike shorts with lace along the hem were still very much in style. At least in Nebraska it was.

I do remember the Nancy Regan "Just Say No." Didn't they recruit Hulk Hogan to be one of the spokespeople for the program? I clearly remember the Presidential Fitness Tests we had to do with Arnold Schwartzenegger as the spokesperson!

I remember having an awful spiral perm. They did nothing but give you poodle hair.

Au natural here too. No color, highlights, perms, straightening...anything. My mom was a fanatical user of Aquanet until about 5 years ago...I can only imagine the gunk that accumulated in her lungs.

Aww maven At least it is only Saturday - you will be fine with it I am sure!! Not only that, but it is good to take a break from it to refresh yourself from time to time

I'm on break now -- just ate leftover Chinese from last night (Friday night tradition here -- I don't cook!) so now I feel kinda greasy but strangely happy. I promised myself I would finish this (with the exception of the biblio -- MLA, ginger! -- and the appendices) before I went out tonight. It *could* still happen -- I have about 4 hours to pull my head out of my #######. However, I think what I just wrote was easily the best I've written this week, so maybe I'll pull this off yet!

God, am I really sure I want to be a writing gun-for-hire?
