Breathing....deep breaths. Whoa. In 2.5 seconds I just had an emotional storm on VJ.

(((Shakes head...shaking it off))) Time to get busy and apply my mind back into school work.

What?

I think teachers need to start giving projects that students can complete on their own. How much have you learned if your mom or dad has practically done the whole thing for you?

I think it's great when parents and kids spend time together, especially in the context of learning, but not doing school work that is supposed to be representative of the child's work.

Anyway, those are my 2 cents that nobody asked for.

For the record, she does 95% of it. I just wasn't in the mood today to go to Staples and get all of the supplies etc. Besides doing that I just checked on her midway to make sure she was on the right track and then checked for spelling, etc. errors at the very end. No biggie...just was planning on relaxing the millisecond my car hit the town line. :)

Oh well, so much for thinking about Thai food... I stayed here and had yogurt & banana & a piece of toast w/ la vache qui ri! After I down this bottle of water and wax my legs I may just go for the apple too!

You need to come over here for lunch Me ~Him...I made salmon patties with dill dressing, and moroccan bread. I have a few extra... :P

What is a salmon patty? Like a salmon filet?

NOOOOO! It's better than that, well can be. We used to call them croquets. You use tuna or salmon in a can or finely slice/chop a filet and mix it with eggs, bread crumbs and spices, then form it into patties like we would kefta. Serve it on a bun or with sauce. I used to make white sauce with my salmon croquets.

Ohhh I gotcha. I don't care for canned salmon so I'll have to try it with Fresh salmon.

Oh and 1/2 cup plain yogurt with 2 T dill makes a great sauce for them too.

I somewhat agree with you but are you taking into consideration that not all kids are on the same level? I'm sure there are some kids that can whiz through projects and others that may need extra help. What I really think is bad is when the parent takes over the whole project or homework assignment.

I think that homework/projects should be designed so that a child at any level can complete it. If you have a classroom with varying levels, then vary the requirements. I just don't think that kids who don't have their parents around to help them all the time should be at a disadvantage when it comes to learning. If a parent wants to help (help, not take over) then that's great, but that should not be necessary for a child to successfully complete the assignment.

I think most projects are given with the expectation that the child will complete at least the majority of the work. They are designed to encourage children to develop their own skills and imaginations and not intended for parents to complete the work for them. Most teachers I know wouldn't give a child a lower grade becaues the project isn't completed in a more professional manner because they're looking for the content and for proof that the child understands the subject matter.

My husband is one of those who likes to "take over" my son's projects because he thinks it's too hard for him but I wish he'd understand that it doesn't help my son at all when he does this because he'll never develop that skill or learn the material if someone else is doing most of the work.
