Was looking at the form N-400 and saw this question.....My husband should be getting his 10 year green card in the mail any day.

Is it a must for him to apply for the Selective Service and if so where? How???? He turnes 26 in February.:unsure::blink:

And if so why would this government ask a male from anouther country to join the Selective Service?

33. Are you a male who lived in the United States at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful nonimmigrant?

If you answered "NO," go on to question 34.

If you answered "YES," provide the information below.

If you answered "YES," but you did not register with the Selective Service System and are still under 26 years of age, you

must register before you apply for naturalization, so that you can complete the information below:

It is the law. As a priviliege for becoming a Permanent Residents all male PR's must register for selective service. Even if you are older and never registered, you will have to give them an explanation as to why he did not.

I think you should register him, because it will come up in his citizenship paperwork.

And if so why would this government ask a male from anouther country to join the Selective Service? He's not 'joining' anything, simply registering himself as an able-bodied male between the ages of 18 and 26. It is a civic duty.

It's really not a big deal.

Actually, it can be a huge deal. To register you can do it at any post office or public library. If they realize that he's been a resident since he was 23, I assume, then it can actually be illegal. Also, if he doesn't register, he will be ineligible for ever applying for any civil service or government jobs in the future. This is the post directly from the Selective Service Website at www.sss.gov

ATTENTION, UNDOCUMENTED MALES

& IMMIGRANT SERVICING GROUPS!

If you are a man ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It’s the law. You can register at any U.S. Post Office and do not need a social security number. When you do obtain a social security number, let Selective Service know. Provide a copy of your new social security number card; being sure to include your complete name, date of birth, Selective Service registration number, and current mailing address; and mail to the Selective Service System, P.O. Box 94636, Palatine, IL 60094-4636.

Be sure to register before your 26th birthday. After that, it’s too late!

Selective Service does not collect any information which would indicate whether or not you are undocumented. You want to protect yourself for future U.S. citizenship and other government benefits and programs by registering with Selective Service. Do it today.

Go now - do it today!!!

So interesting.

We went to the web site to register and it says he is already registered.........

It gave the Selective Service Number and the date of 2/22/06

Well, its good news but we dont have a clue as to when we did it.

I think it's automatic with AOS.

Exactly. You have to certify on the I-485 that either (1) you're female, (2) you're over 26, (3) you've already registered, or (4) you want your AOS application to serve as your registration. We paid close attention to that because G. had just turned 26 about 6 weeks before we applied.
