Hi Asmo,

I would think that if her official birth certificate is in English, then that would be all you would need. Only documents printed in foreign languages need to be translated. If it is common to have an English birth certificate in Pakistan, then I'm sure the embassy will be familiar with this and it shouldn't be a problem.

However, if her official (original) birth certificate was in Urdu, you will need it and the English translation.

I would double check with the embassy on this, but it would seem illogical to translate a document already in English into Urdu (assuming the English BC is the original, official document).

Contact info for the visa unit at the Islamabad embassy is below:

Phone: (+92-51) 208-2700

M-F, 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Fax: (+92-51) 282-2632

E-mail: pakivinfo@state.gov

Hope that helps...

Tanya

Now a days the Birth certificates are issued by the Nazim office and not the municipal corporation. The one we got for my wife was also in english and that should be fine. You can get it notarized by foreign office and send copies with the package. Make sure to take the original to the interview. Take care and Allah Hafiz.

Thanks Irfan and Tanya for quick response. I will also call embassy just to make sure. Irfan, they are asking me to send original with one photocopy to send with packet 3.

I don't remember if we sent the original or the copy but you can make sure with the Speedex who will be sending the packet. Just follow their direction. Send them the original and ask for it at the interview just incase you need it in future.
