Trying to learn Pidgin

I been trying to brush up on my pidgin english to surprise my husband when he finally gets home. I found websites that are in dictionary form and give example sentences, but what I'd really like is an audio version to learn correct pronounciation and how the words are accented and used in dialoge. If anyone know where to find something like that I would greatly appreciate it...Or maybe some of our Nigerian brothas and sistas on here would be willing to make one! Cuz I sure the heck would buy it!

Thanks everyone.

God Bless

I hadn't heard of pidgin english before and went to the website to see what it was. It sounds similar patua what we speak in the west indies. Good Luck. I've been trying to learn my SO's language. I've learned a few words and it surprises him if I use them, especially if I use them correctly.

Good luck with that!

Pidgin is spoken in Ghana too but I'm not sure if it is the same as the pidgin spoken in Nigeria. My fiance tried to teach the basics of it to me but I guess all the grammar lessons I took in school are making it even more confusing for me :P

The West African pidgen varies by country but can generally be understood. I sometimes hang out in the Jamaican forum to practice, their

poitwah is very similar and I get most of it.

I had always wanted to create a thread where we can talk pidgen ( called Krio in Sierra Leone ) to practice. Would anyone be participating ?

I have not found an audio for pidgen.

There are some lesson books available.

Pidgin and Patois sound the same to me. When I was in the English-speaking part of Cameroon, I understood everything they were saying once I masterd the pattern. However, there are variants based on country, region, tribe and even familiies. You may want to check with SIL [http://www.sil.org/linguistics/] to see if they have resources. This is a group I worked with who assists in translating the Bible into little known languages.

I'm sorry, my hormonal meter went from depressed to sarcastic and I just couldn't resist. I'll skulk back to my desk and pretend to be working.

That's ok I pretend to teach one language while typing another. Then my laptop's cursor still jumps around the screen and I end up with posted #######. I don't care, this is more interesting than work anyway

This is totally off topic, but I just want to complain.............. One of my students walked in during the break and stood over the top of my head. She then proceeded to shout that she didn't know I had a weave. Pisssed off I am. I work at a "non-diverse" school so I had to school her how "black" women don't appreciate people trying to dig their fingers in their :( hair. Her answer: Why? My answer: Because I said so. Now go on your break.

Oh Lord! Girl, this dang job is always getting in the way. And people feel so comfortable to ask you all about your business. I work in HR.......the most nosy people on the planet. You can't keep your business YOUR business. People actually came to my office when I got divorced to ask me why I didn't TELL THEM. Can you believe it?

Anyway, I feel your pain, cause I don't particularly like other people's children. Yea, I work for the Education Department, what's your point?

Arghh.. I know after the break I'll a few more "curious" girls wanted to see my hair. I used to have dreds and when I cut them out, I even had parents asking me why I took my dreds out.

I have a new crop of locks. It's been a year so they are at my ears now. I got questions in the office a lot. But whatever, they were totally stressed out when I cut off my permed shoulder length hair. I did it to symbolically get rid of my ex cause he's the reason for the hair. Had to be long and straight. God rid of him and the hair. Felt so free. And cheaper than therapy. Poor Bassi wanted me to keep my mini fro and told me not to lock my hair. Well, I exploded. I just remember being long and straight for ten years. I'm doing for me.

I should add that now he LOVES my locks. Men are so fickle sometimes.
