Vaccinations

Hello,

I'm a British citizen marrying an American. Things seem to be alright so far, but I have a question about the vaccination process. My brother also married an American citizen and upon going to the embassy, had the vaccinations either done there or upon arrivial into the US (I'm hazy on which it was). He had all of them done at once, felt ill for about forty minutes or so, and that was it.

The vaccinations needed are:

Mumps

Measles

Rubella

Polio

Tetanus and diptheria toxoids

Pertussis

Influenza type B

Hepatitis B

Varicella

Pneumococcal

He already had some done and clearly marked on his NHS history, but they gave him them again, and would only take cash. My question is, given that I already have perhaps half of the injections on the list, should I worry about the rest prior to the embassy visit/interview/medical?

Thanks for your help,

Jack

As far as I know when you go to the medical you bring a vaccination history from your GP to show that the vaccinations have to be up to speed - I'm getting them all over the next few months on the NHS to preempt the costs on the day.

Coincidentally, I just had the first shot of my Hepatitis 'B' course as I'm working on a project that involves visiting some pretty ropey places - be prepared for some crazy dreams the night after the injection and a damn sore arm for a day or two!!!!

Hi,

I just got my Packet 3 and on this they say

"Special notice for K and V visa applicants: although vaccination records are not actually needed for such visas, they will be needed for the permanent residence application you will be making once you travel to the US. If you bring your vaccination records to your medical appointment, the same medical results can be used in the US and you will not have to take any further action in this regard"

They are trying to just let us know the vaccines are not mandatory for interview, or entry to the US, but will be mandatory to change status to PR, so its probably alot cheaper and easier to get them done here on our NHS. They also list the costs which are around £35/vaccine.

I am just taking my vaccination records as I have had them all for travelling before, but if you are in a rush dont worry...its easier and cheaper for us to get them here first, but not required.

Good Luck

Lily

I also didn't need any vaccines before the interview.Although I got them in advance as I think they are cheaper here than in the US and will be needed when changing the status.
