ok.....I read earlier in this thread that parental approval is important....my finacee does not have that......are we in trouble ?....they not only would not approve.....they dont know.......sigh.....am gettin more and more depressed over this everyday !

Don't worry too much about that. I personally don't think it's that big of a deal, and how would the Consulate even know unless you specifically told them that. Don't worry! If you have a friend who has spent time with you guys and they can write you a letter that can't help but otherwise don't sweat that. A lot of families aren't too excited about their choices but in the end they pretty much always come around. It's a red flag that the Consulate won't necessarily know about, unlike a large age difference for example.

Unfortunately, in this case, it is a big deal.

I can only say these may be some of the reasons, but I think they consider other factors as well.

From what I read, the way the benefactor interviews has a lot to do with the embassies decision. Also, in my case, we have been in AP since April 18, 2006, and our case was just released from security checks at the Department of State in Washington just before Christmas. DOS told me with Cairo, this was a normal time frame for them to respond.

I do think any red flags are a big issue and the embassy persues them before making a decision.

Sometimes it feels like the papers are just sitting on a shelf somewhere, and they may be. We all just have to have patience and preserverance.

It seems this process takes forever, but it has given us plenty time to get to know one another better. This has been good for both of us.

And ladies..............if you are anything like me, last time I went into Pizza Hut, I used the restroom before I ate. When I sat down at the table, I saw a long strip of toilet paper had attached itself to my shoe and followed me from the bathroom to my table. Now THAT brought stares!

I was so embarrassed.

I must say you women, that have gone to visit your men in their country, must have not been paying attention because I have clearly gotten the stink eye from Egyptian women watching Jack and I together.

We've has this discussion in MENA before. So you got the evil eye...why is that immediately interpreted as jealousy? That's rather vain, IMO.

Plus, it wouldn't explain why the American consulate, presumably not full of evil-eye-giving older women, would be delaying visas out of jealousy. But only in MENA and high fraud consulates.
