Lesson #5

Thanksgiving is in October, its rightful place on the calendar! Oh, and there is no such thing as Black Friday in Canada, unless you count when the final day of the NHL regular season rolls by and Toronto misses the playoffs yet again. *sigh*

haha.. Toronto never makes the playoffs and probably wont for a very long time :P

*double sigh*

P.S. Just to set the record straight, not all Canadians like, nor appreciate, Timmies.

Sorry...some of us have working taste buds.

I love my coffee like mud with no chemicals, and I have no use for donut thingies. :hehe:

I like your list Cassie...funny.

SpiritAlight, I thought all I had to do was learn to say "eh" after every sentence! I didn't know there was more involved

Lesson #1 on How to Learn to Be Canadian:

Not all Canadians say "eh". :D

Lesson #2

The starting day for the annual "Tim Horton's Roll Up the Rim to Win" contest will soon become a Canadian national holiday. Prepare for it by strengthening your thumb muscles.

Lesson #3

Don Cherry is tolerated in Canada basically because he reminds us of our cranky yet lovable grandfathers.

Lesson #4

If you think our money is like Monopoly money, wait until you see Canadian Tire money!*

Lesson #5

Thanksgiving is in October, its rightful place on the calendar! Oh, and there is no such thing as Black Friday in Canada, unless you count when the final day of the NHL regular season rolls by and Toronto misses the playoffs yet again. *sigh*

Lesson #6

Canadian Smarties are so much better than American Smarties!

*not legal tender in any other place other than a Canadian Tire store.

#1 - I know this, but MOST do, I've been there!

#2 - I was there for one of those contests. But not a big Timmy's fan, even the iced caps make my tummy hurt :(

#3 - eh?

#4 - your money IS like monopoly money. But, I've never seen the tire money haha. (seriously, who puts kids playing hockey on the back of their pink and purple money)

#5 - PFFT what are you giving thanks for! lol Oh wait, I looked it up once, a good harvest. I think this holiday is an American copycat ;)

#6 - Canadian smarties = M&M's.....US smarties are in a league of their own!!!!!!!!

hehehe ;)

I've been to several places in Nova Scotia....I've not heard "eh" in any of those places. My husband gets teased (gets old after awhile) about that down here. He's never said it. None of his family say it.

That may be true, but I hope everyone realises that being overweight isn't necessarily due to overeating. :)

Canadians are getting fatter too, just at a slightly slower rate than Americans

According to the 2004 CCHS, 23.1% of Canadians aged 18 or older, an estimated 5.5 million adults, had a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, indicating that they were obese

whereas about 50% of the US population is considered obese.

Since the mid-seventies, the prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased sharply for both adults and children. Data from two NHANES surveys show that among adults aged 20–74 years the prevalence of obesity increased from 15.0% (in the 1976–1980 survey) to 32.9% (in the 2003–2004 survey).

(the percentage of obese children is about 17.4%)

And what coincides with the expanding waistbands of America? The use of high fructose corn syrup in foods! It started in the 70's in a few packaged foods, and since then is now added to pretty much Everything! As more food products contain HFCS, Americans get fatter. I don't think its just coincidence! :P

The whole of the Western world is getting fatter, and most of it has to do with the current lifestyle. We pretty much drive everywhere rather than walk (around here people think you're off your nut if you walk anywhere...or you must have lost your license because of DUI :P ), eat fast foods and processed packaged foods rather than fresh foods, watch 20 hours of TV per day and yadda yadda yadda. Its not just the package size of Smarties we eat at Halloween or Christmas. Although, i'm sure that has something to do with it, when the "Biggie" size only costs 25 cents more than the "regular" size, hey, what the heck! :P;)

Anyhoo...back on topic...it'll be a few years before you can think about starting the process for Canadian Immigration, and save your pennies, because it ain't cheap!

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
