RFE - CIS lost our passport photos

I am stricken with dismay at the degree of incompetence exhibited by CIS. I get an RFE due to the fact they lost our photos, they will not disclose any information via phone, therefore you must wait for the letter to tell you the problem which in my case took 6 days. Now we have to remake our photos and Inna will have to overnight them from Ukraine which is not cheap. The worse part is the delay in the process which will be at least two weeks if not more. You can't even complain to them over the phone or via email, you have to write a letter and mail it to the director. I guess they could wipe their tail with your documents since they are exhonerated from any responsibility and everything falls back on you whether right or wrong...sure does suck!:crying:

One of the things to help you is to get a few extra photographs to help you expedite the process - I had extra so if needed, I could have used them - better to spend a couple more dollars for a few more copies - if not needed - you can still keep them! Good luck

Hey Ken --- To begin, I have the lowest of expectations for the USCIS people. That said, I had my wife send me about 8 passport photos because I fully expected something to go wrong. They asked for (I think) 2 with the application; I gave them 3. Alternatively, after you get these from Inna, I suggest going to a camera store that can make copies of photos, just to be safe.

And, take a deep breath --- in the realm of USCIS incompetence, this is a mere fart, sadly enough. It can get worse, but I hope that it does not for anybody here! Good luck! G

So sorry to hear about this. This stuff always worries me.

This is very dangerous because that is precisely what it says in the application not to do. USCIS expects photos to look and feel a certain way, and if they have any doubt, good or bad, they can RFE you and slow it down. That said, if it were me, I'd avoid the .jpg route.

I would be worried about that suggestion. There are requirements for the picture and if you dont get it right they are going to give you another rfe or deny your petition. i would go somewhere where they know how to take passport style photos.

Hey if it worked for you than thats great but i woudn't chance it. i'd be worried the whole time if it were me.

The picture was taken at a kiosk in Thailand where they make passport photos. They did it with a digital camara. My picture was taken at a kinkos, again with a digital camera. All you need to do is take the jpeg file to a Walgreens or other digital photo print kiosk and you have an official picture on real photo paper that is 2" x 2". Nobody uses film anymore.

sorry to hear of your RFE, we are in the same boat following a "missing birth cert" they say they did not receive but my daughter knows that she sent it. It would appear that they can lose things and then blame us and it justs adds longer to our process ;)

My daughter sent the birth cert back the next day and they finally notified us on the 7th of this month that they had received it and now we are STILL waiting for the approval.

I cannot for the life of me understand why it takes so long to link a piece of paper to a file!!!!

Good luck anyway, hope it is resolved quicker than ours ;)
