I'm currently trying to get my embassy forms ready in advance of receiving Packet 3 (since CSC have still not forwarded our petition to NVC). Anyway, I want to try and make up for lost time (as much as possible) by being ready to send it back the day it arrives. Is there any detailed instructions/advice anywhere on filling out these forms? I'm currently filling out DS-156 and need some advice on some aspects of the form.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

I've been searching like mad for info. I don't seem to have the golden touch when it comes to the forum search here. Anyway, I worked out some of it but there are a few things I'd like some advice on:

Q22 When do you intend to arrive in the US?

I have an idea of when I'd like to arrive but haven't booked tickets yet. Basically what I'm asking is if you insert a date (say March or April 2008)will they try to accommodate an earlier interview?

Q26 How long do you intend to stay in the US?

What do I write here? 'forever and not before time'? :P

Q27 What is the purpose of your trip?

Marriage to the petitioner?

Q32 Do you intend to work in the US?

I guess the answer to this is 'no' even though I would prefer to be able to.

I think that's it for the DS-156. Thanks for your help - I guess I'm being over-zealous about answering the questions right, I can't bear any more delays on this thing :(

Can anyone advise me how long it is taking to be assigned interviews?

I'm stressing a bit as we are technically going to be homeless after March 22nd, and I was really hoping our family would be able to be on our way to the US a day or two after that, but I need to have my visa in hand before we can book tickets! I sent a letter with my statement of readiness that this was happening and proof ('eviction' notice) so I was hoping they would get back fairly quickly with a date. Camping out in a hotel for goodness knows how long with two under 5's will not be fun...nor would it be much fun my husband trying to take them over on his own while I wait behind!

---------------------------------------

14/Jul/97 - Met Rick in UK

04/Nov/97 - Travelled to US on visitors visa

01/Jan/98 - Married in US

1998 - 2000 - Long process with Immigration obtaining Green Card #1.

20/May/2003 - Left US for UK

11/Feb/2004 - Child #1 born

14/Jul/2005 - Child #2 born

August 2007 - Decide we need to move back to USA. Kicking self for not getting citizenship.

24/Sep/2007 - I-130 sent

28/Sep/2007 - I-130 NOA1

12/Dec/2007 - I-130 Approved

11/Jan/2008 - Police Certificate applied for

11/Jan/2008 - DS-230 part 1 sent off

14/Jan/2008 - Medical booked for Jan 21st

21/Jan/2008 - Medical in London - all clear!

24/Jan/2008 - Statement of readiness sent to embassy

09/Feb/2008 - Police clearance arrived

14/Mar/2008 - Interview at 9am!! APPROVED!

18/Mar/2008 - Visa arrived!

22/Mar/2008 - Being made homeless!

23/Mar/2008 - Flight to USA!!

12/Apr/2008 - Greencard arrived!

Done with immigration until I can apply for citizenship in 2011.

It seems to vary. I returned my packet 3 a few days before you did. I called the DOS a few times, the third time I called to see if the interview had been assigned, I was told they have lost my checklist! So give them a call. They can give you the date over the phone, if its been assigned.

Well after grumbling yesterday, I got my interview date through today, March 14th at 9am.

This does cut it a bit fine though, as we're being evicted the following week...does anyone know how long it takes to actually receive your visa after you've been approved! Obviously don't want to book our tickets until I have it in hand, but that might only give us a couple of days to find 4 seats on a flight!

So long as all goes well at the Embassy they say you should receive your visa within 4 working days. However it is often a lot sooner. My interview was at 09:30am and I got a text at 4pm to say it would be with me the next day.

Congrats on your interview by the way
