Completely lost and frustrated...

Hello all. I stumbled upon your forum after hours of searching for the right solution to my problem. My fiance, whom I have been with for approx. 5 years and I are looking into getting him up here after my graduation in June. My question is, is the K-1 visa the most appropriate route to take? I have heard some people say that it is "easier" to legalize a marriage in El Salvador and try to then come up here together on another type of visa. I'm not quite sure what to do or where to start looking for information. I'm not familiar with any of this. All I want is for us to finally be together permanently in the same place. Can anyone direct me towards the right choice of visa?!?

well you can use diff options which suits use best on VJ you can go under guides section and do a study on wht is best for you.

There is lots of information on the K-1 Visa in the Guides at the top of the page. If you want to get married before coming to the U.S., then you will need to apply for the K-3 Visa.

Just to add to this, it is doubtful you will be able to have your fiance recieve a K1 or K3 visa by June. From reading timelines and past experiences here you will see that it is very rare for a K1 to be issues within 5 months of initial application.

Looking at the timeline data you will also see that K1 tends to be faster and you are looking at 6-8 months if everything goes smoothly.

We have threads here (under the regional section) for applicants from different areas of the world. You may find others from El Salvador who can give you more hands on info as to whether its better to apply for K1 or K3.

Neither one is 'fast' but K1 is oftentimes 'faster' than K3 - sometimes it depends on the beneficiary's country of origin. DR for example is very backlogged and applications are taking on average 9 months to 1 year to process.

I agree its highly unlikely you'd get either type of visa by June of this year.
