Marriage certificates??

Hi all,

I got my packet 3 the other day and have noticed that it said something about including previous marriage certficates? Do I really have to include those? This is the first I have heard about it!

I have never been married, but my husband to be has (The USC). We have all the divorce documents but he doesn't have a copy of his marriage certificate and I am guessing it's going to be a pain in the ####### to obtain one!

Anyone know, if we don't have it will it cause a problem?

The packet 3 is your application for the K1 visa.

So everything on the checklist is information about you, the beneficiary.

If you have never been married you can't include the marriage certificate. You dont have to include the marriage certificate of your fiance as he has already shown that he is able to marry you on the I-129f.

(I think they mainly want to see marriage certificates of a previously married woman to show the name change, i.e. surnames on the birth certificate and passport will be different).

We were in the same position -- I (the USC) had been married before but not my husband. Although we were prepared on the day at the Embassy with the marriage certificate from my first marriage, they didn't ask to see it. I brought it along because I was erring on the side of caution, but as sally says below, it's your application, not your fiance's.

I was married before and didn't have my marriage certificate any longer as it was need for my divorce. We were never questioned on it since we had the decree absolute.

Female beneficiaries need previous marriage certificates if they ever changed their name. That and a divorce decree is a paper trail of any changes of surname.

Oh well, I never changed my name - so we didn't have any issues.

The council kept it and I just submitted my decree absolute. I'm pretty sure in the K1 instructions, previous marriage certificates was not on the list/just divorce decrees (if it was on there, I would've obtained a copy from the council). This was never brought up in the interview.

I made a huge mistake here, and I apologize! I totally confused the Marriage Certs., with the Divorce Decree....you are so right, it was the Divorce Decrees that we had to get for hubby. I had to get my previous Marriage Cert.

So sorry if I caused confusion here, I blame it on the cold weather here...I had a brain freeze
