Anyone applied for a new Canadian Passport from the USA?

I personally have been hassled several times at the US/Canada border if I did not show my passport, and last year my Mother was nearly denied entry because she did not have a passport when she was coming down to visit me.

It may not yet have passed into law, but border officials have been hassling travellers about it for years, even before 9/11. Its better to just get a passport and have at it.

Glad you got it in time Sharon

you have to do it via mail, and send the applications to the passport office. There's info on their website for Canadians in the US

spose so. But you can also send it home to someone eligible as a guarantor and have them forward it on to the Passport office for you.

So if you havent known a guarantor here for two years you are pretty much screwed?

No you're not screwed...you just have to fill out more paperwork. :P But considering all the paperwork we've been through with this visa process it's a piece of cake. There is a form called "Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" that you can fill out and take to a notary public, lawyer or commissioner for oaths.

I just picked up one of these and am filling it out. Going to see how it goes. It says using this form makes the process longer. I guess they have to do more checks and all that fun stuff. It basically asks for the same info as the passport application but instead of 2 years of addresses and employers, it asks for 5 years. And the picture has to be signed with a different statement on the back.

Fun. I've been procrastinating for 2 months now to get my passport renewed. It's expired now. So I'm not travelling anywhere until this is done. My goal for this week is to mail in these forms!

(I know this is an old thread. But I'll bump it up anyways :) )

Just so everyone knows how it went for us...

Those of you who said that all I needed were our green cards were right. I had the passports ready to show if asked but the green cards were sufficient.

Flames, funny enough, same thing happened to us on the way back - they wanted to see my US hubby's passport as well as his driver's license but not anything other than mine and my daughter's green cards haha I had a bit of a laugh at that one. :hehe:

Our visit in Montreal (and environs) was absolutely awesome, hubby and I squeezed SO much into the 10 days, and we took HUNDREDS of pics, no lie...lol...damn, you'd think I didn't live there all my life.

Here's 2 as an example...

Me looking out at my beautiful city of Montreal from the top floor of our hotel room..

My sweet small town country boy husband got a REAL taste of Montreal hospitality at the Jazzfest de Montreal!
