rescheduling N400 interview

I filed at the end of July and at this rate, I might not be able to make it to the naturalization interview because I'll be studying abroad. I understand that it's definitely not encouraged to reschedule the interview and that studying abroad is not really a life and death situation...

I just want to hear from others who have rescheduled their interview and what happened...

Did you get to choose when you want to reschedule the interview? (cause I will be gone almost a year...I'll come back in the summer though)

Did they give you lots of trouble because you rescheduled? (other than delaying the process like...closed your file or give you another date that's not good...)

Thanks everyone for your input.

Avod the problem, fly back for the interview.

Then by all means postpone it. With the current backlog now, it might take a long time to get another interview. Also remember time away from the US all the way to the Oath (including interview) also counts as continous residency requirements too.

So you might be waiting weeks, months or over a year like many people to get another interview schedualed. Guess you need to decide which is more important, citizenship or a $1000 and a class...

i know that Removing conditions is different then Naturalization, but my example still might help you - i rescheduled my biometrics for 10 months while was getting my degree abroad, and still got the greencard (after a RFE), so i hope that if you don't brake any rules, laws and don't divorce your US citizen spouse, then rescheduling N400 interview should be fine legally, but will delay your progress alot as it was said before. so if you can afford it - just come back dont reschedule.

Good luck to everyone!

We had to reschedule the interview because we needed going back to HK for a family medical situation. It may just depend upon how long you leave and whether you have a proper reason. We told them that we would be back on the end of May and yesterday we received the letter from Atlanta office that they will have our interview on the end of June.

Actually you may schedule a infopass and ask the immigration what they will do about it. If you can wait for another year for it and not out of the coutry over 6 months, I believe they will reschedule for you.

Good luck!
