Just wondering if it is only Tennesee that requires someone from another country (Canada) to complete the entire written and road test for a drivers licence. I thought some states just switch it ??????

nothing about "United" when it comes to paper work in the "United" States!! Each state varies!! And sometimes it can even vary within the state if you get a clueless employee,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Perhaps I should look for a clueless employee when I walk in with my Prince Edward Island licence, maybe seeing Ann of Green Gables on my licence may throw them off and I will get one :devil:

USC here. Its been a few months since I looked into what Danielle should expect when she goes to the revenue office for her Arkansas DL. If I recall correctly all she has to do is surrender her Canada DL, take an eye exam, and pay the $25 DL fee.

Here in CT, A CDN licence is considered the same as an "out of state" licence.. Sorry to hear about the issue in TENN.. GAH.. it is frustrating that every state has COMPLETELY different rules!

I am a USC and surrendered my MN license for an Ontario one. Then I moved to AZ and they wanted me to test to get it. I happened to have my MN driver's extract with me and the nice lady decided to ignore the ON license and process me as if I had an expired MN license, so no test.

02/15/2006: Began Canadian Immigration

09/19/2007: Withdrew CIC application (they still hadn't processed anything)

10/01/2007: Moved back to U.S.

10/29/2007: USPS confirmation of receipt of I-130

02/13/2008: NOA-1 received (107 days)

08/20/2008: Biometrics appointment

08/22/2008: Received RFE for Affadivit of Support and Medical

maryland straight transfered mine.. wel not actually they took my canadian CDL and would only give me a regular DL..

glad i did that cuz Im moving to texas next month and now i can just transfer state to state..

Not sure if they've changed it for here in Colorado, but when I got my DL 10 years ago I just got the eye exam and that was it. Got the DL within about 10 mins of handing in my Ontario one...

I will have to take the written and driving exam here in Louisiana.

how long are you having to wait? My fiancee will obviously need to get a DL, as public transit basically doesn't exist in Louisiana. She has never driven, so it's going to be a fun journey.

Yeah I lost my 15 passenger van endorsement.. BAH.. i'll have to take that road test again.. booooooooo :angry:
