So i went to get my police clearance started today since i know it takes them forever to do a quick 15 min search in the Canada data base.. anyways...

at the top where it asks you what you need the clearance for.. i didnt know what to put so i waiting till i talked to the lady who was looking over my application, and she suggested i check off the "immigration - certificate only" box... since technically this isnt for travel for business.. and it wasnt for any of the other choices.. Was "immigration" the right choice to pick? if its wrong, does anyone know how i change it.. short of paying another 30 bucks and filing again

im so dumb sometimes :(

That's what my Husband thinks he chose (from what he can remember).

I don't think it matters. I didn't choose anything the first time I got them. When I did it a second time (my old one had expired), I just chose for personal use or something. The guy at the desk said that one would be allowed to be used for anything.

The K-1 thing just wants to know if you've been in trouble or not. They don't care which box is checked.

Maybe your concern is about reading posts from people who got the wrong one recently? If so, those were fingerprint checks, not just the name check.

With the fingerprint check request it is apparently more important to be absolutely specific as sometimes (as mentioned recently) they have sent a check back that states it is for Canadian immigration.

No you're not. :thumbs:It's system of convoluted regulations and bureaucratic excess that's dumb. You should be fine as many places have forms that don't even ask for the reason for the request. Never been charged or convicted of anything, then don't sweat it.

My Police Certificate states at the top right hand side:

Canadian Police Certificate for Visa applicants/foreign travel/foreign work permits.

It sounds like you chose the right one.

#######... There was a box saying Visa applicants for Travel/Work permits.. i didnt check that one since i wasnt applying for a visa to travel or work.. I checked the box that said "immigration - certificate only"(im guessing they're sending certificate only :P).. i was so out of it (early morning) i forgot that k-1 was a NON immigration visa... :(

I wouldn't worry about what you checked. A name check is a name check, a fingerprint check is a fingerprint check! I didn't check off anything and got what I thought

was the right one. Vancouver got the right one...that's all that mattered to me!

you checked the right one. You are intending to immigrate, even though technically the K1 is a non-immigrant visa.

I have a question to add to this.

Is it okay to do the police check BEFORE you get packet 3? I've read in a couple other threads people said that they were supposed to wait until they had packet three to get their police check.

Shouldn't make a difference. I've never heard of a problem with getting your police check before receiving the packet.

Police cert are good for 1 yr (for Mtl) So one can get them when ever u want. Some Police agencies want paperwork proving why you require it. My RCMP detachment in Greenwood NS did. I just printed off a page from a govt website stated it was required, but the majority dont care!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
