Can someone please let me know exactly what is needed for my Fiance to bring her dog from Russia. This is obviously very important for her and we're agreeing and disagreeing as to what is needed. I never heard of a passport for a dog in my life and I'm trying to tell her this is not needed to bring her dog to America. I have already been over this with the airline (delta) and they don't need anything special besides a reservation and payment at airport because the dog will be a carry on. I have made the reservation and all is fine there. I have read that all that is needed for importation into America is a Health Certificate and proof of a Rabies Vaccination 30 days prior to entry. She doesn't want the dog to be quarantined. but as I have read this wont be a problem as long as these forms are present at entry. She is insisting that this passport is needed but I can't find that anywhere. Is this something needed to take the dog out of Russia maybe? Please if anyone has been through this let me know the procedure because right now this dog is a bigger headache than all that was required for her!

I have taken my dog to America before.
I paid for the dog to be carried on.
They must be in a cage, they suggest one of the soft ones. I believe the dimensions should be on the airline's website.
All I needed was for my dog to have a rabies shot and I was able to bring him with me. I presented the proof of vaccination at customs and they accepted it.

I highly doubt a dog needs a passport, it just needs to be healthy and properly contained on the aircraft.

Just adding my opinion.

I as well don't believe there is any such thing as a "passport" -as known to people- for dogs.
My guess is it maybe terminology for a shot/vaccine record from the vet showing the dog is up to date on all shots/vaccines and or a health certificate.
Maybe your local humane society may be able to either provide information, or point you in the right direction.

I did a quick search and found this website
http://www.foreignborn.com/visas_imm/enter...ringyourpet.htm

Not sure how up to date and valid the info. is, but hope it helps some.

The most up to date, accurate information is available on the CDC website

I think you should only worry about the CDC (and airline) rules... and that your wife is referring to the European Pet Passport. Good luck.

Hah i have 12 pets that i want to bring in the US as well....

There is actually such a thing as a pet passport... it doesn't remotely look like a regular passport but I had to get pet passports for my cats when I took them out of the US. The US doesn't have very tight requirements on dogs and cats entering the country but I found that other countries do! smile.gif

Basically it was a standard form that my vet already knew what it was. It had to be filled out and my pets had to have a "physical" and all their shots up to date..then the papers were sent to the official gov't certified vet agency for my state. There, they certified the form and had it notorized with an official seal. It was then sent back to me and waahla! Pet passport! lol. I had to have all kinds of forms on the pets to get them into Denmark.

Course, you're coming to the US... so a lot of what I wrote is irrelevant to you, but I thought it might be interesting for people to know that there are pet passports. smile.gif

Thanks for this information. I'll start calling the authorities for my pets' passports. I have 12 and I won't leave unless they come along with me.

I can give up my cats but NOT my wonderful dogs, monkey and parrot.

Most state in the US will not allow you to have a monkey unless you have a special permit and facilities. And insurance.

My step-daughter lives in Russia and will be bringing her small Yorkie with her when she visits us in a few months. She got the pet passport from her vet in Russia. As others have said it is just a document indicating the dog has had a physical and all shots and is OK to travel. The dog will not be quarantined.

We took our Kitty with us to the US, and YES, he needed his passport. Just go to your local vet office and they will issue you one. It is necessary for the airlines and also when you enter the US, so they can see that the pet has all the vaccines and checks for health.

Good luck

Russians like passports -- OP might want to crosspost at the RUB forum for more information.

Once, several years ago I had to send to solutions containing platinum and rhodium to Russia, for a research contract we had over there. Those solutions needed a passport. My Russian counterparties helped me create it and all went well, so apparently what we did was kosher (enough).

OP's fiance should talk with her vet, just as Neonred advises.

This bothers me.. Can I bring my monkey in California? What about dogs, cats and parrot? Where can I find information about bringing my pets in the US? I'm willing to stay for a while until I acquire all my pets' passports. My fiance understands. Thank you.

Ok, I think we finally got it straight. Now next question she is asking me is does anyone know the name of the Rabies Vaccination?

dolfan621---

Take a look at the following website---

http://www.moscowanimals.org/advice/import.html

scroll down to the middle of the page and it gives you all details of what must be done to take a dog/cat out of Russia. Read it VERY carefully because some things must be done AT LEAST a month before the animal leaves Russia... and some must be done only days before the animal leaves.

Any competent vet in Russia will be familiar with the regulations and will be able to guide your fiancee through the process.

Contact your state's Wildlife and Fisheries department to find out about the state and county regulations. The other consideration is the cost of traveling with that many pets. Airlines restrict the number you can have on board with you, dependent on size of course. You can travel with them in the hold, but there are restrictions on the times of year that you are allowed to fly depending on your destination and any transit locations (because of the weather).

As far as I know the parrot will have to be in the hold and cannot be on board with you.

Nix and Poppy,

For the parrot you will also want to look into any CITES regulations - some parrots require special export/import permits depending on their species. You can find out more information here to see if it something you need to address: http://www.fws.gov/international/DMA_DSA/P..._list_wbca.html

and here is specific information about importing birds: http://www.fws.gov/international/pdf/pe.pdf
