hi VJers,
i am about to file my application of removal of the conditional status of my residency. I read that a sworn affidavit is needed from 2 people who know me and my husband. Are his parents, sister or any relatives acceptable or should it be non-relative at all? Does the affidavit need to be notarized?
thanks for any advice.

Sworn affidavits are not need/required - it really depends on what other supporting evidence you are going to submit; for example if you don't have much to send, then the affidavits might be useful.

Immediate relatives are fine (mother/father/brother/sister etc, cousins are not considered immediate family).
If you choose to submit affidavits - they can be notarized but they do not need to be. The examples in Example Forms have a place for notary, but again, it isn't required.

Notarizing not required but "better". Lots don't even submit them. To me if USCIS suggest you do so. Do it!

Hi there,
I did not submit any affidavits when I filed I-751 and was approved. I thought also that I had enough to submit and do not have to bother other people to get involved with this stuff (kinda shy

). Like other posters have said, it is not required but would help if you do not have much evidence to submit. If you can make your family and friends write something about your relationship, that would be a plus, and why not. Good luck on filing.

Hello ...
I did not submit a notarized affidavit ...
I did include letters from three firends who are not relatives ...
Below is a sample of how a letter should be composed ...
Hope this gives you some idea of what you may want to submit ...

Dear Sirs:
I first met John Jones several years ago as a member of my local church and we became friends. He was married to another Filipino lady at the time. That marriage failed and some time later John became acquainted with Jane, a Filipina working in Hong Kong, and a romance developed.
Though my wife and Jane never knew each other in the Philippines, they met when Jane immigrated to the US and they have become good friends. As a matter of fact, my wife Jill considers Jane one of her best friends. They go shopping together and we share their company on picnics, birthday parties and just visiting each other. We see them nearly every weekend.
We also learned that Jane is a cousin of another friend living in Pixley. It’s amazing how we find coincidental interconnections between our acquaintances.
John and Jane are living in a house John has lived in for many years in Podunk, a community just south of Bugtussle. We are only about 25 minutes apart. It’s a cozy place and we feel very much at home there. They’ve often been to our house in Bugtussle as well.
There is certainly no doubt that they have been living as a married couple! My wife Jill and I are looking forward to a long friendship with them.
Sincerely,
Jim J Smith
Date of birth: 9/26/1936.

Sworn affidavits are not needed. You can use them to supplement your evidence which you already have, but it is not a must. I didn't get them.

I did not submit a notarized affidavit ...

Please note that the letters can NOT be from family or relatives ...
Sworn affidavits or notorized letters are not needed ... just a simple signed letter from a friend or your neighbor or pastor at church etc. will do ...
I included 3 letters from our friends ... bank statments and a copy (transcripts) of our 2007 and 2008 joint tax returns ... and thats all ...
Belinda got her green card in the mail earlier this month ... no interview ...
