To all Filipinas who got married in the US, did you give giveaways to your guests? If you did, what did you give? How popular are wedding giveaways there? And to those who are still yet to get married in the US, do you plan to give wedding favors?
I had been planning to purchase native stuffs for this occasion but I don't think I still have enough time to do this. Gusto ko sana i-personalize ang giveaways kaya I wanted to make them myself. Ok lang ba kung madami-dami native stuffs dalhin ko?

hi ate riza,
in our case, civil marriage lang kasi ang sa amin so simple wedding lang. yung souvenir namin is a pair of swan (made of glass) kissing with each other then may mga pink ribbons and designs. binili na namin yun ng ready made although masgusto ko rin ng gaya mo na personalized souvenir ang bigay namin kaya lang wala kami time kaya no choice.
in regards in your case na gusto mo siyang i-ship or dalhin sa US, ang iniisip ko lang ay baka kasi maquestion yan ng custom dahil sa dami ng volume na i-shiship mo. baka isipin nila ay gagawin mong business iyon at hanapan kapa ng business permit at kung ano ano pang papers. i think better ask mo muna if your allowed to ship that kind of volume before na bumili ka para hindi sayang.
yung husband ko and father-in-law ko kasi ay mahilig dn sa native crafts kaya paguuwi husband ko, isang maleta n puno ng native ang dala nya. nagask kami muna if allowed yun, ang sabi pwede naman daw kasi tig-iisa lng ang volume at for personal use lang. i really think u better ask na lang po kung type mo magdala ng ganun
Best Wishes on your upcoming wedding!

The question it give out give away at your wedding or not.

A big thumb

up for that. My family does and I think it is something nice to remember the special day. Some have been store brought and other have been hand made. It is up to you what you want to do. I think it would be great if you bring something over from the Philippines but you have to watch out wieght now on your luages. Good luck and look forward to meeting you.

i had a simple church wedding ...mga 20 people lang ang present. I gave away napkin holder na made of coconut shell..(bought from quiapo). I was planning to give away a native keychain with "PHILIPPINES" in it, placed in a nito or buri cutie bags pero i didnt had enough time back in pinas to look for the keychains that i like.
Good luck on ur wedding and im sure whatever wedding favors u can think of, ur guests will love it

Riza bringing more than 12pcs in every item is not allowed anymore.what i can suggest you is to make label for it whom you are going to give them...just a tentative name so that they will think that those are not for business use. Hope this idea will help u Riza!!!!
Days flying very fast and will be ur flight date!!!

I just shipped our wedding invitations just this month and it made it there for just 15 days,I sent 60 pieces wedding invitations along with my wedding dress and no questions at all with customs,it got there safe and still intacked. You just have to declare the stuff you are sending and thats it,I use our local postal service here and according to them, items that are not allowed to ship are those sharp pointing objects and wiring stuff,so go on if your planning to buy some stuff here for your wedding..
And what I did with our invitations was,I made it a two in one style meaning it is a souvenir at the same time, less expense and very unique...Best wishes

I brought 30 pieces of this cute native basket made in Cebu City for our wedding giveaways where inside were wooden toys ( planes, cars, tractors etc ) we bought from Dollar Tree and labeled them with our name and wedding date. It was a hit. Since it was made of native materials, they easily fit in one of my luggages. My wedding invitations were also made of the same material.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I really appreciate it. I don't think I will have a problem with the weight because native stuffs are very light. Besides Ryan will be with me during the travel so, we would be able to bring things that weight twice from one person traveling. My concern is just the customs since these are native stuffs. So, labeling it with names will help?

Hi Jom, this is really nice

There are really a lot of nice native stuffs here in Cebu and I am personally fond of accessorizing those myself kaya nga gusto kong gumawa eh para unique din. Sana ok lang magdala ng marami.

Thanks for sharing Prime, they're quite nice and elegant-looking

Cute talaga.

Hi Riz,
It's really a good idea to buy native items there in the Philippines for your wedding favors. I was planning to do that too before flying out but since I was traveling alone I did not able to. When I was in Manila I saw this native hand-painted fan made of bamboo and I really wanted to have that as my giveaway for the wedding. Unfortunately as I said I did not able to because I was bringing a lot of things with me during my flight. So we settled for those small favor tin cans we bought at Michaels & other knick-knacks. Well, it was fun but I really wished the wedding favors we gave was something that reflect my Filipino tradition...

Hi Riza,
Actually I brought 50 pieces of my wedding invitation also made of that native material because I sent some to the Philippines ( I wanted them addressed from here ) and the 30 pieces giveaways but I didn't have any problem in the customs, in fact they didn't bother to open my luggages ( they went thru an x-ray though) . My POE was San Francisco. I had no problems during my local flights in going to Florida as well. I placed them in between my clothes.
Goodluck and best wishes.

Thanks. Actually I just ordered them from the shop in Dipolog where I also ordered my wedding invitations. The owner told me they ordered them from Cebu so I don't know which store in Cebu. Sorry. Since you are in Cagayan de Oro city which is bigger than Dipolog I am sure there is a wedding shop there which can order the same from Cebu if you will show the picture.
Yes they are very light. I believe I paid P25 for each and you can choose the color to fit your motiff . I chose the native material per my mom's request because she wanted a kind of Philippine touch for my wedding and indeed my in-laws and those who got them were awed by how they look. They call it very unique.
Goodluck.

Just a couple tips:
I would avoid things made of wood or bamboo because the humidity in the US is generally lower than in the Philippines and the items will crack (personal experience).
Also make sure nothing has seeds from plant materials or US Customs will confiscate. I tried to bring in a couple of those short brooms with woven handles and they were taken away because they found seeds on them.

This is what I wanted as a wedding favor, there got smaller sizes of these and since I won't be allowed to bring I found a website where you could order and arranged the way you like based on your motif. My fiance' wanted a variety of native stuffs from the Phils.so I still got to decide final. But I really like the lucky bamboo.

Hi All, ok lang si me. Mixed emotions na ako ngayon, excited and sad. But I know what I really want, kaya kelangan I have to deal this emote emote thing

Dami ko talaga ideas about giveaways. Dami dito sa Cebu. Mukhang wala ng oras para gumawa pa ako. Kaya wala na lang siguro kaming favors. Pwede din raw materials dalhin ko at do'n ko na lang i-accessorize. Gusto ko ako mag hands-on sa giveaways talaga dahil I enjoy doing it. I will still see, tight budget ko

Pag may sobra, most probably I will get some. Kelan ba flight mo? Salamat talaga sa best wishes mo

About the shells, I am not too sure if hindi pwede dahil when Ryan was here I let him bring a bunch of necklace made of shells for his family and friends, and didn't have a problem with it. Also, I will bring the sand and the shells that we both picked at the beach

Lagyan mo ng label in case they will ask.

Hi RyaNRiza.. Thank u sa infos. And I love reading this post haha.
Or masyado magastos ang air cargo?
Thanks talaga!

I bet your fiance would be surprised

Also I suggest, dito ka na lang bumili ng ribbons mas mura siguro dito. Please refer to this post about air cargo. Hope this helps:
