As part of a review of fees throughout the immigration process, there is a proposal to raise the fee on I 129fs from $170 to $455, effective October 2007.

Page 86 of this PDF shows details.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments/ProposedRule.pdf

If I read the PDF correctly, they propose to eliminate the I 129f fee for K3 applicants. Guess K1ers will be taking the brunt of this particular increase.

The public has a chance to comment on this. The bottom of this page gives details on how to comment.

Hey I'm the instigator - who else is gonna be brave enough? :D;)

heh, I was brave--I put you up to it, didn't I? :innocent:

Of more interest to the crowd will be the AOS fee changes. Everyone should head over to the uscis.gov Press Room and this page www.uscis.gov/21stCenturyService to see your agency at work.

But they are proposing to raise the I-130 fee. Not as much as the I-129F, but still a proposed increase.

Well, that's just ###### absurd. Think things are going to process twice as fast with the fee increase?

Don't have a stroke, people.

One of the proposed usages for the extra fees is to pay the FBI enough to have them get off their rearends and get namechecks done in a more timely fashion.

If it saves any of you the heartache we have experienced, then trust me it will be worth every extra dime you spend.

I-485 goes from $325 to $905 . That is the biggest increase. See the notice in VJ News:

Which is an all-inclusive fee - it covers EAD and AP for as long as it takes them to adjust you. No extra filing fees if your AOS ends up taking years. Again a benefit.

No I don't work for USCIS nor do I love them. Far from it. But we have already spent that amount of money for my husband's adjustment.

That is true they are now "free" however the total cost will still be roughly USD $1,000 more for most applicants. The goal as they stated is that this will ensure faster processing times and hopefully as a result people will not need duplicate EAD's, I-131's, etc..

I'd like to state for the official record my prediction that if this fee increase goes through, processing times will decrease by half a percent while our bank accounts decrease by quite a bit more.

Captain, what is now 'free'? I don't follow you?

As an aside, I can tell you right now from my personal perspective, if it cost me an extra $1000 to process my husband's K1, adjust him, lift and then natz - I would have gladly gladly paid it rather than sit here in this blackhole. If paying the FBI more for servicing to process petitions get people done and gets them onto a normal life, then it's worth every single penny.
