I called today to USCIS since we have not received anything from them in over 6 months. I checked the automated system and put in our Reference number. The recording could not find my wife's case. I called back and talked with a Customer Service Representative. He could not find anything on our case. We have the NOA's for the 1 year extension and the Biometrics. He transferred me to another representative. The man did find our case online and said that it was still pending. He assured me that a RFE had not been sent and additional Biometrics were not sent.

I asked him why the telephone could not find the case and the first CSR could not find the case. He said the first person I talked to was a contractor with limited information access. He said he was a federal employee of USCIS and had access to more information and that is why he was able to locate my wife's number in the system.

I only hope he is correct in that there has not been a RFE or additional biometrics needed.

I told him that there was a number of cases that were submitted in January, February, and March to VSC and they had been approved. He just told me that a lot of cases were pending now. There was a time when people had to wait 2 years for approval.

I thought this was very interesting and seems to explain a lot to me. Hopefully, it will give a better understanding to others.

I called USCIS again on August 7, and the lady put in a service request. She said I should hear something within 45 days.

Today, I got an e-mail:

Thanks for the information. What an insight! I am learning so much from and about USCIS. I have been looking at the USCIS website and nothing has changed since the initial submission. I was under the impression that a Service Request may actually get the case moving a little since it is outside normal processing times. Now I can just sit back and relax. I know it is still pending.

Yes, I was thinking of that in the next few weeks. I have been lucky here. I have never made and INFOPASS appointment. I have always just gone in and got waited on. Only a couple of people have been there, but most of the time it is empty. I have been about 8 times. Thanks for the suggestion. I am calmer now.

Well, good for you for calling after the 6 months and following up. Hopefully the service request will speed things up. At least you know that if they are using your file as a paperweight then that should end soon now ......

Unfortunately, someone only looked into the computer system and let me know what I already knew. No telling where our case is or if someone will even look at it as a result of the service request. I am all better now. I think I shall dance for a while.

I got the same letter. Yeh like I don't know what it is still pending. I opend a service request to find out why it is still pending I think I have the right to know what is going on with my case and why people from April getting approved and mine still pending. I file in December 2008 my NOA is January 7th 2009.

Just got approved after 12 months since i have filed i-751. i had to go for interview. dont sweat it, nothing really to worry about.

The best thing i have done during the waiting period was contacting my local governor office. they were great help. they have called uscis and called me back with all the updates. give them a call and see what they can do for you.

John24689 i am sorry to hear about your situation just wanted to let you know i am in the same situation , still waiting and case is still pending just called the USCIS last week and they put a service request in for my case and i recieved the same email you got , but my email also said that if i don't hear from them in 60 days... and on the phone they told me 45 days ? I really would like to know what the hold up is ? And i really don't feel like doing this Infopass thing cause that means a 6 hour drive again and we just did that about 6 weeks ago ,

I'd be asking my congressman/senator's office for help - they should at least be able to get more information than you can!
