I share your pain my friend...

Although I sent mine 2 weeks after you, it's still horrid to not have a clue when our interview will be. Maybe if we vent every so often, it won't be as bad.

I warn everyone though...

...I have the emotional state of a pregnant lady lately (well, as compared to my pregnant, over-emotional friend ) ...I swear I can cry over the smallest things!

I would love to get a date before Christmas...I won't travel until after the holidays anyway, but it would be lovely to have that as a Christmas present :) Both of our birthdays are in January too. It would be nice to be together...Ahhh well

reaaallly trying not to get my hopes up. It makes me that much more anxious

Lol Jen...I feel the same way. It was getting pretty bad a few weeks back, pretty much had a meltdown. So my fiance and I decided that we just wouldn't think about it......that lasted up to a few days ago. *sigh*

So....think an interview date for this month is even a *possibility*? (I almost want you to just tell me what I want to hear, lol)

I sure hope that you get that wish of spending your birthdays together. And the date that we have fixated upon as the day of David's flight home becomes a reality....

It *would* be the best present....and I still have hope that it's going to happen...not giving up yet.

I think it all depends, you may not wait as long as I have...or you may wait longer. I wish I knew how this all worked with the consulate. There are people who sent in their checklist a week before me and have already gotten their visas...so I have no clue how it works =( I'm just REALLY REALLY hoping that they are even having interviews this month...and that I get one of em! =)

Good luck to us all, and post as soon as you hear anything!

Folks, I know it seems like an eternity - we went through every miserable second of it too! Just keep in mind that it WILL happen. Also, be sure to check in with DOS on the status of your packet at the counsulate and your appointment date. They told us our date weeks beforehand but we got the letter 2 days before the appointment and then only after calling the counsulate and begging them to re-send the letter (the original was obviously lost) so we sould not be hassled at the door.

what is DOS and how do we check on our status? i was under the impression we could only email montreal with questions, based on the letter they sent me they dont have people that you can call and ask, and when i ask the status or if they have received anything i get no reply, but if i ask questions i get a reply just very brief and not very helpful at all :bonk:

I was also under the impression that there was no one to call. The letter says that the only way to reach them is by email...

A number would be lovely *hint hint*....

Gah, I had another 'moment' last night...I think my cats think I have completely lost it...

I have to forgo a trip to Halifax for my friend's bachelorette party because I'm slightly broke, and I need to save money for when I have to travel to Montreal...and since I have NO IDEA when that's going to be, I can't spend money on anything! I'm nervous that if I get a December interview, the price of Everything will be sky-high (ie :hotel, train trip up, etc) :bonk:

No presents for people this year it's looking like *sigh*

DOS = Department of State. The petitioner can get the info by calling with the case # from Montreal. I don't have the number handy but if you search within VJ it's here (that's where I found it).

Calling Montreal will get you an operator who won't be able to help you so that's a waste. We got an operator who was sympathetic and she asked the visa folks for us and gave us a message back that the appointment was indeed set and she is the one who actually requested the second letter regarding the appointment be sent. I don't think you get someone that helpful very often from what I've been told.

We had very little response from the emails we sent to the consulate - I'm sure they are just buried with inquiries.

The number for the DOS is 202-663-1225, you are going to hit 1 and then 0....no need to listen to the menu. That will put you through to a live person. You then tell them the reason for your call and they will ask for your case number..it will be on one of the papers you got with your packet 3...should begin with MTL.

I called once a week for the first month, and now I'm calling twice a week....I sure hope they don't get annoyed at how much I'm calling , lol.

I suggest sending a email to Montreal (Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov) and ask them nicely if an interview date has been set..We never received our interview letter and would have missed the date completely if we hadn't emailed and asked!

I agree with Kate, BUT, we found the email responses to be very slow to non-existant. Had we not called DOS we would have missed our appointment!

Call DOS about 10 days after you send the packet to be sure they got it and it's in-process. Then wait about a week and call once per week to check on the status. You'll feel like you're doing something at least!
