Quick question about medicals

Still waiting for Packet 3, but I'm a little bit confused about the medical that needs to be done before the K1 interview.

Is there a particular doctor that we must see? I keep reading about someone (someplace?) called Dr. Seiden's. Will I be getting more detailed information about where to get my medical done in Packet 3?

Thanks! :-)

Yes you will. In pkacet 3 you will get a list of the Dr's that are qualified to perform the Immigration medical. So, packet 3 will be there soon I am sure. Just wait till you have it, then call up one of the Dr's on the list for your area and book it. They book fairly fast so you don't need to worry about wait time.

Yes.. you must go to a designated doctor to do the medical. There are two in Toronto. Dr. Seiden and Medisys Health. But almost everybody goes to Dr. Seiden's. You cannot make an appointment until you get Packet 3. They usually get you in the same week as when you call.

Is it true you now need five photo's to bring for the medical? How about a translation of your vaccination record in case it's not in English?

You don't need five photos for the medical.. you need at most 3 and Dr. Seiden only requires 1. Anything not in English needs to be translated into English. The doctor needs to know what he is reading.

I'd just like to say I went to Medysis and had no problems. I think both are probably fine.

You will need your vaccinaction record and if it's not in English I would think you'd need to have it translated so they can fill out their forms appropriately.

You can always call if you are not sure.

Also, I did not wait for my packet 3. At Medysis they only wanted my case number though that may have changed as I went last November.

That's my 2 cents.

Yeah.. they wanted the case number when you made the appointment, but at the appointment they actually wanted the cover letter from Packet 3. Probably to make sure you didn't give them the wrong number or something...

Thanks Canuck Carrie & Zyggy! It takes me approximately 20-25 min to drive to either clinic, so it doesn't really matter which one I go to, I think.

I'm not in a hurry to get my medical done (esp if I can get an appointment within a week or so!), so I'll definitely wait for my Packet 3 before booking an appointment.

How long did you have to wait for an appointment with Medysis?

I waited a few days. I called before I got my packet 3 to see how far ahead they were booking. It's no problem with them.

Back in February, Medisys were booking their appointments by the following week. They were very professional. Just make sure you have your appointment letter, pics, and vaccination and past surgery information and you won't have a problem.

Appointment letter? So is it better to wait a bit after Packet 3 before making the appointment (Packet 4's the appointment letter, right?). How many pics do you need for Medisys? In the above, someone's mentioned you need only one pic for Dr. Seiden's, and that you only need your registration # (not the letter), unless I've misread something...

Regarding pictures: I had extra prints made yesterday at the shop where the photo was taken. Since it was no longer in the digital camera (taken in March) it was possible to scan and print on photo paper. A sheet of 16 was $10. An interesting option under the heading: be overly prepared.

Question: Is there a fee for the medical? (I can't believe it's covered by OHIP.) Do they want U.S. cash?
