Even tho Chex now has a wheat chex, and not just the rice and corn ones, its still not the same as Shreddies. They taste different, and the texture is not quite right.

I can't get home again until maybe November sometime (I'm hoping), and I can't afford to order on-line. So I'm just whinging. I Want Shreddies! *sniff*

A few years ago when my husband lived in Lenoir I found an organic brand that was almost just like Shreddies, better than Chex anyway, but I can't find it anywhere here in Morganton and I can't remember what brand it was.

I really miss those good good whole wheat Shreddies!

oooooo, I just thought of something! Cara is coming to Charlotte to visit, I should ask her to bring me some

ah well...I now return you to your regularly scheduled programme.

nope, Shreddies and Shredded Wheat are two completely different animals. Both made from wheat sure, but they're distant cousins at most.

Why is it Americans don't eat chips with gravy? My husband thought it was the strangest damn thing to put gravy on fries. I made him eat some a couple of times, he even tried poutine. He doesn't like gravy. but then I saw how his Mother used to make gravy....I don't blame him!

Is it November yet?

OK. there are foods that I miss too. A bit off that topic, can anyone tell me if it is possible to find Inner Science shampoo and conditioner in the US? I love that stuff and can't find it anywhere. It is a drug store shampoo made in Canada.

Thanks

Nanaimo Bars.........I want some nanaimo bars :crying:

I just found boxes of Honey Maid graham crumbs at the local discount shop. I've been making Nanaimo bars with the Keebler type (which are okay but this felt like home). My biggest problem has been finding unsweetened coconut (which I finally did in speciality but not like in Canada where that's the easiest type to find...).

Of course, I thought I'd prepared well when I moved...I brought 4 cans of Byrd's custard powder with me. At 2 tablespoons needed per pan of bars, I won't be running out very soon...

Thank you for this thread, I was just about to start one.

Mars bars are US-based...you should be able to find them.

www.canadianfavorites.com for the rest. :)

My hubby CAPS just found another link too...if you don't want to order in cases.

Mars bars are US-based...you should be able to find them.

You just need to follow the simple translation (I'm assuming UK and Canada candy bars have the same names):

Mars Bar(UK) = Milky Way(US)

Milky Way(UK) = Three Musketeers

As far as I can tell, US Milky Ways taste the same as British Mars bars. Also:

Dark Chocolate Bounty(UK) = Mounds

Milk Chocolate Bounty(UK) = Almond Joy (except for the almond on top)

Not sure why the Milk Chocolate Bounty equivalent has an almond on top!

Even tho Chex now has a wheat chex, and not just the rice and corn ones, its still not the same as Shreddies. They taste different, and the texture is not quite right.

Chex is the weirdest thing to me, I first had them when I came here in Chex Mix. Upon eating them, I immediately called up my mum and told her:

"You'll never guess what they have here! Barbeque sauce flavoured Sheddies in a crisp bag!

Thanks for further explaining it. We actually have them branded as Mars bars here in Washington state, not Milky Way (which we also have). So when I look for the old Canadian Mars bar, I grab a US Mars bar. (Of course I don't, because I don't like them much.)

To my knowledge in Canada (at least west coast) you can't get a dark chocolate Bounty so I always had Neilsen's Coconut bar. Which is happily available on the second link I posted. :)

I can't find Mars anywhere. Casey said he was sure they had them but can't find them either. Milky Way is not a mars. Totally different.

Nanaimo bar mix??!? Never heard of it!

I saw Nanaimo bars in a bakery in the Minneapolis / St Paul airport a couple of weeks ago and they were labeled "Vancouver Island bars". It made me wonder if people couldn't pronounce Nanaimo.
