Hello all..

I would like to ask about something if anyone could help..,

for first im an egyption man,and my fiancee is american,For some circumstances and with the sitiuation of the egyption ministry of justice and the embassy of US in Egypt, our case is kind complicated to marry.

Im thinking of marrying through civil marriage in Egypt, but she is afraid that if we did, it wont be recognized in US and that i will not be able to go there to her in future.

and from another side the idea that [we dont know till when we have to wait the sitiuation to be solved between MOJ and US embassy] make both of us really sick,it could be loooooooooong years if we waited.

however, it seem for me that the civil marriage is the fastest and the best solution for now to be with each other so soon, but she is worry about the case if they didnt recognize it in US.

So,Are there any ideas or solutions could help for going into civil marriage for now and be recognized from US in future??,What is the best ways to make that work??,and What the probabilities of the succeeding toward that matter??

any advise will be appreciate, thanks for help.

The problem is not the US government not recognizing a marriage performed in Egypt, it is that Egypt wont allow a US citizen to marry in Egypt without a specific form not issued by the US Government.

This message serves to inform the American community that the Egyptian Ministry of Justice is not currently accepting the notarized affidavit provided by the U.S. Embassy and required by the Egyptian government to authorize the marriage of a foreigner in Egypt.

The Egyptian Ministry of Justice, the authority conducting marriage in Egypt, officially notified the Embassy that it will not accept the Embassy’s form designated for that purpose as it does not fulfill the requirement stated under Egyptian law. The Government of Egypt requests the U.S. Embassy to object or approve the marriage of U.S. citizens. The U.S. government does not have legal authority to approve or object to the marriage of American citizens. We understand that American citizens may be inconvenienced by this problem. The Embassy continues to pursue this with Egyptian officials.

So if you can get arround the Egyptian government's problem with the US affidavit, and managed to get married in Egypt, the US government will recognize the marriage.

If you are unable to marry in Egypt because of this ruling, would it affect marrying in the US?

The reason I ask is that you could visit the US and marry, then return home to Egypt to await the visa (that is, if you are able to get a tourist visa). If marrying in the US is not possible at this time, then applying for a K1 fiance visa instead of a K3 spouse visa might be the route to go for.

I wish you the best for your journey :)

Painter,

I actually went through this situation myself and brought a notarized statement to the embassy stating that according to the American law that I was a divorced Christian able to marry and the embassy still denied to stamp it stating that it was a legal US document. So, you are correct there is an affadavit that the Egyptian Ministry of Justice requires that the US Embassy signs and notarizes stating you are free to marry and they are in disagreement on this form and have been since April of this year.

I have heard others state that you can possibly marry in another Arabic country nearby or even Cyprus if you can get a visa to travel there. I have heard it is hard to get visa's sometimes to non arabic countries so I really can't offer too much information on marriage in another country.

My fiancee and I chose to do the K1 Fiancee visa and we are in the process as we speak. It isn't a fast or easy solution but in the end your hopes are to be married and hopefully that will be what happens. Maybe if you haven't already you may want to check out some of the timelines and guides to find out more information about the fiancee visa and see if it is an option. You get married within 90 days and wait out the rest of the visa process together.

Good luck with your situation and journey.

Tasha

salam to u brother...

i was in the same situation as urs just a couple of months ago!! me n my husband ( was finacee then) started with the k1 and thought if we got married it wdnt mean anything to the US embassy but sadly yes they do recognize it. so we stopped the k1 process and started all over again on a k3 visa and all the months of k1 visa process was down the drain:( it was such horrible time for us especially wen there was another solution that my dad strictly rejected.... that is we could have done a "3orfy" marraige, becoz its not registered; the US embassy told my husband they wd not recognize the marraige and so the k1 wd go on as it is. u do this thru a lawyer and u get a paper of marraige but not "rasmy". so its either that or u change everything and start on k3.

if u have anymore questions... feel free to ask.
