The whole process is outrageous

We are required to beg and bribe and perform leaps through burning loops of red tape... why? Why do we allow this? Why do we tolerate it? Why are we meekly complying with it?

As the INS thug behind the bullet proof glass in the Anchorage office so snidely informed me, 30 years ago this ####### did not exist. You got married and when you returned to the states, you informed the feds of that fact. The end. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not but either way, I'm fit to go postal trying to comply with endless, redundant demands.

And now I see they've jacked the price up over 100%. So nice I get to pay out the ears for federal goons to abuse my fiance' and I for years to come. I just cannot express my outrage, my absolute hatred of all things INS. How dare they.

Isn't there anything to be done about this? My god! I've got to go into that wretched cesspit and smile big and talk polite and thank them oh so much for their abuse and contempt because if I don't, "Oh, dear, your file seems to have been lost. You'll have submit everything again and meanwhile, we're going to imprison your fiance' and send her back to Finland".

GHAAAAA!!! Am I the only one near to blowing a gasket over their pointless bureaucratic bullshit? There has got to be some way to stop them. Appealing to senators and congressmen is pointless, they don't run any of the bureaucracies and most of them are lame ducks right now, anyway. There has got to be something...

It has got to stop.

I think you need to take a Zanax.

And it's not INS anymore.

They are the same jackoffs in the same building no matter what they call themselves. Do you enjoy begging and bribing and doing tricks hoping for permission to marry who you want? You like that, do you?

Hmmm... I'd like to be able to respond by advising you to write your senator/congressperson and ask that the entire process be re-visited, but I'm afraid that for every constituent who has any appreciation for the difficulty of the legal immigration process (very, very few), there are hundreds of constituents who would like it to be even tougher to get into the US, legally or illegally, than it already is. I don't think things are going to be getting any easier with this climate of fear over terrorism.

So instead, I'll offer this:

Cultivate the serenity needed to accept the things you can not change, the courage to change the things you can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

You will get through this.

Best wishes,

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

If not going to your senator or using the proper appeals channels, what exactly is it you're proposing alaskaone? If you're just blowing steam, consider it blown. Breathe now. :) If your problem is the bureaucracy, welcome to working with the Federal government. :) If the problem is rudeness, it's unfortunately an all too common problem with government workers. If you have a specific problem that someone can help you with, I've found the people on this board to be very knowledgeable. Perhaps thy can point you in the right direction.

Begging? Bribing? Wow, the K-1 process must have changed pretty drastically in the last few months...

Relax. It's really not that bad. Unless you're determined to take the 'federal goons abusing you and your fiancee for years to come' view (why?!), that is, and enjoy living in a permanent state of stress and outrage. If that's the case, go right ahead. But like I said - it's really not that bad... getting a bit of paperwork together and paying a fee hardly constitutes 'begging and bribing', really.

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

Dude, chill out. No, i am not excited about doing all this paperwork, but everyone that I have dealt with at immigration in the US and the embassy in Peru has been very polite and professional. No doubt thre are some bad empoyees in places. Looks like you have met some bad ones. Sorry to hear that.

Remember 9/11??? The US cannot just let anyone in the country without checking it out. And there are other good reasons to not just open up the door besides terrorism.

I'm not happy about the new rates either. I do believe that is excessive!!!

However, I am sure if you walk into an office for an interview with your attitude you are not going to be approved.

GHAAAAA!!! Am I the only one near to blowing a gasket over their pointless bureaucratic bullshit?

Sounds like it! ;)

I can understand your frustration. However, knowing that I was dealing with immigration, my personal frustration was tempered with the fact that I was asking for the privilege to enter the US, and the process of doing so would be long and involved. I was not expecting rose petals and a red carpet! ;)

You're right, 30 years ago it probably was that easy. But thanks to people that have gone through this process and chose to be fraudulent and flaunt the system, we now have to jump through hoops to get what we want (the visa). It sucks. But in the grand scheme of things, it was something I was willing to do.

if you dont want to go thru the proper way to bring your fiance here and marry them, go to their country then.

everyone has to go thru this, no one is more special than the other.

why did i have to take my drivers test to legally drive?

why did i have to go to college to get my job?

why did i have to do anything in life?

there are reasons for everything. but i dont remember begging and bribbing anyone to get my husband here.

Not sure how far along you are in the process, but I can tell you it gets worse before it gets better.

It's of no use to fight it. Try and outsmart them with some shortcuts. Otherwise, take the punches as they come. There is no way around it.

Folks, we've all paid taxes... 31% off the top for most of us plus about another 20% in hidden taxes on goods and services. Why are we being milked again?

We want to marry someone. That's it. 9/11 was done by people approved by the feds to come to our country. Who has been punished? Nobody working for the Feds, that's for certain.

We're trying to get married and live happy ever after, that's all. USCIS is using it as an excuse to extract revenue from us.

All that can be reasonably asked of us is the following; a tax return (have ya got a job to support your new wife/husband with?) and a criminal background check on the fiance'. That's it. No more.

This wringer INS wants to smash us all through is just plain cruel and pointless.

How do you fight, you ask? The first thing you do is get to know your enemy. I think you are still too agitated to notice the obvious escape route. I'm wondering if maybe you should relax? The second thing you do is remind yourself that life is like a ####### sandwich...the more bread you have, the less ####### you'll have to eat.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I've neither bribed or begged anybody in the US for anything in the visa process. We did have to pay extra under the table to get some documents translated quickly in China though, so it did take an extra day to get permission to marry who I wanted.

You've blown this way out of proportions. I second the Zanex recommendation. If you want to get married, get married. What is stopping you?
