How to contact your senator or congressman

How to contacting your senators/congressmen about:

1) Case status

2) CSC processing order of I-129F applications post RFE return and transfers from NSC

3) Unintelligible and inane emails from CSC and their translation into English

4) Any other problems you are having

Generally, emails and written letters to senators and congressman will generate a response, a few months later, thanking you for your support of their stance on immigration reform.

For more immediate assistance, follow these steps:

1) Find your senator or congressman’s website.

2) Go to the section for Constituent Services.

3) Download the privacy form.

4) Fill out all the relevant case information.

5) FAX it to their office.

6) Call to follow up. Find out the name of the specific person assigned to your case and get their direct phone number.

If your senator doesn’t have a privacy form on the website, call them directly.

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_info...enators_cfm.cfm

http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW.shtml

Of course there are no guarantees that they can really get straight answers or do anything, but having a contact who will allow you to voice your concerns and will TRY to get information will at least help a little.

Don't abuse it - if you have an NOA1 date from May forward, I wouldn't suggest contacting your senator until you really need them.

Would you advise to do both senators?

Barry, in your case, YES

I contacted both because the woman at the first Senator's office was mean mean mean. I have had MUCH better luck with the other one.

I never contacted a congressman but the second senator's office was well aware of the problems with CSC and equally frustrated. She commented that everyone in my situation (I interpret that to mean everyone who filed between March 6 and April 30 b/c for May forward it's much too soon to be calling anyone) should be contacting their senators or congressman. The more inquires/complaints CSC gets from them, the better, to put the pressure on CSC to get their sh*t together.

I faxed a long letter to my senator this morning complaining about the lack of progress on our K-3 applications and receiving duplicate IMBRA RFE's. I mentioned VisaJourney.com and all the people posting here about receiving the duplicate IMBRA RFE's. I suggested that USCIS was wasting their time and ours with these duplicated RFE's, they have to mail them out and perform data entry on what we send back which adds to their workload. I suggest everyone contact their senator and complain, maybe someone high in the USCIS management will notice if they start getting calls from senators offices. I assume all of our I-129F's are being processed by NBC in Missouri. When their congressional liaison office gets calls and e-mails from these senate or congressional staffers they are required to open a congressional case and expedite if USCIS is found to be in error. Sending out duplicate IMBRA RFE's in my opinion is clear error on USCIS part.

If you have a legitimate case that requires congressional help, I would suggest contacting your Member of Congress first. I work for a Congressman, and our office is often able to help faster than Senate offices due to the number of cases we receive (we represent half a million constituents versus millions for Senate offices!) When you initiate contact, call the district office and ask to speak with the staffer who handles immigration. Do not email. Do not send a letter. Call! They will tell you what to send them. If you do not receive good service, follow up with your Senators.

Thanks for that advice - do you think there is any value is contacting the congressman after one senator's office is already involved? Just wondering if duplicating efforts would do any good or just piss someone off.

I've often wondered whether multiple inquiries would get USCIS moving faster or just make them mad. I guess I would lean toward saying that it doesn't hurt to get more than 1 office involved. The agencies are generally very eager to please Members of Congress, and even more so if multiple offices are involved. I don't think that they would mess with your case just because you got your representatives involved.
